“You don’t have to say it. I got it….” Drew stood and put his clothes on, “We’ll pretend this never happened. I’ll be back tomorrow to see Andy as agreed.”
At the exit to the living room Drew paused, “This… us, I did it wrong last time, but I don’t plan on making the same mistake again. I will see you tomorrow, and I will meet our son, but just know I am not giving up on us, because this is once in a lifetime, and trust me, that’s speaking from experience.”
Drew walked back to where Shay was sitting, he lowered himself, so they were the same height, he placed a kiss on Drew’s cheek and stood, “I plan on getting it right this time.”
Shay had to sit there and watch Drew walk out of his life. Okay, sure, it was Shay who walked out the first time, but still. This time, he had to see the alpha every day, and pretend like Drew didn’t have his heart in the palm of his hands.
Only Shay didn’t trust Drew with his heart…
Shay closed his eyes, and he could still feel the touch of Drew’s mouth on his, still taste the alpha on his tongue, and he could still feel the need clawing at him, even though it had just been sated. No other man, no other alpha had ever made Shay feel like this.
Fuck, he was screwed.
A deep sigh escaped him. At least the secret was out, and it was no longer weighing on him. He just didn’t know what would happen next.
On shaky legs, Shay got up and walked to his son’s room, watching him as he slept. Shay would do anything for Andy, and deep down he knew Drew was… would be a good addition to his son’s life. What it meant for his own life, well, that was a whole other matter.

Drew
Even though Drew had nieces and nephews, from his friends having kids over the years, and his brand new niece from his brother… well not so brand new since the kid was almost one, he could honestly say he’d never tried shopping for them, his assistant or his mother always taking care of it for him. But this was different. This washischild.
He looked around the toy store and felt slightly panicked. What on earth was he supposed to give a three-year-old that was his son, but didn’t know he was his son?
He was already halfway to Shay’s home when he realized that maybe getting his son something was the way to go. He’d missed so many birthdays and Christmases, he didn’t even know where to begin, but he was overwhelmed as fuck standing in the first toy store his phone had directed him to.
The worst part was between the confusing conversation he’d with Shay, the anger he still felt towards the man, and the sex that had him all turned around, Drew hadn't thought to get the omega's phone number. That was something he planned on rectifying the first chance he got.
Although, maybe right now it was a good thing he didn’t have Shay's number. Calling Shay panicked in the toy store aisle might not be the best look on his first day at this whole parenting gig.
Drew turned from left to right, hoping something would jump out at him... nothing did. What did three-year-olds even like? Drew should have spent the night searching for that, instead of puzzling at Shay’s odd behavior, and being angry at the man for keeping his child away, while also thinking about how soon they could have a repeat of the night before.
So, when he spied a shop worker, he might have called out, “excuse me,” louder than was strictly necessary.
Drew managed to pick out a couple of toys for Andy that he was assured were age appropriate and completely on trend for three…almost four-year-olds. As he loaded his trunk, he realized he needed to figure out exactly what kids his son’s age liked. Drew also stopped by a florist and picked up a bouquet of roses and lilies. He wasn’t sure what Shay’s favorites were, but buying flowers for the omega felt like the most natural thing in the world.
He parked outside Shay’s home, and took a deep breath. For some reason, and for the first time in recent history, anxiety overwhelmed Drew. It was a new emotion, and one he didn’t particularly relish. He’d walked into board meetings with Fortune 500 CEOs, wrangled a bull, and he made decisions that affected the lives of hundreds, maybe thousands, but two human beings, two humans that meant more to him than he ever imagined possible, had turned Drew into an emotional wreck.
He realized he’d never wanted anything as much as he wanted this. His family. Andy and Shay.
Even though he was still pissed at Shay.
Drew was about to meet a son he’d never known about. The prospect excited him. It was also intimidating. What was he like, this little boy he’d never even imagined. How would he feel about Drew?
Did he even wonder about him? The dad he’d never met? Was he too young?
He would drive himself crazy wondering, so he got out of his car and made his way to Shay’s front door. As excited as he was, Drew was also terrified.
He felt like the new kid at school that kept praying someone liked him. Not just anyone though, the most important person ever. Drew took a deep breath, and then knocked on Shay’s front door.
He didn’t have to wait long for Shay to answer. Drew would swear the man had been waiting on the other side for him to knock.
“Hey,” Drew whispered.
He wasn’t sure why his voice came out so low.
“Hi,” Shay replied, meeting Drew’s eyes before looking away quickly.
