Page 20 of Unforgettable Omega
He was at least thankful that the alpha had waited until now, after Andy was in bed. Shay had spent the better part of the car ride, dinner, bath time, thinking of how you told your almost four-year-old,“oh, by the way, this guy, he’s your other daddy.”
He still didn’t have an answer.
Shay took a deep breath. He was done running. Not that he had a choice, but it was one thing keeping Andy away from Drew when Drew didn’t know their child existed, it was a whole other situation doing so when Drew seemed to want to know their child.
Whatever he felt, Andy came first, and if Drew would love their son and be a good dad, who was he to stop Andy from having that?
Shay paused in front of the mirror at his entrance and checked to see if he was presentable enough, but immediately he stopped. Presentable enough for what? For Drew? Shame engulfed him. Why was he so damn predictable when it came to this man?
Why was he already worried about what Drew thought of him?
Shay caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. His dark eyes were wide with trepidation, and his face was even paler than usual. He pinched his cheeks to restore some color, while fear and stress had his mind racing.
The bell rang again, making him step forward before Andy was woken by the noise, and with a sense of foreboding, opened the door to the overwhelming presence that was Andrew Walker-Thompson, the father of his child… and the man that had broken his heart.
Five years. Five years and it was like the first time. Laying eyes on Drew had Shay feeling the same emotions he had the first time.
His presence was as familiar to Shay as if their separation had just happened. And even though Shay had seen the alpha earlier in the day, being this close to Drew, just the two of them, had him spinning into oblivion.
He stood rooted to the spot, couldn’t move, couldn’t speak. He was struck dumb, emotions bombarding him, but he couldn’t let himself be ruled by said emotions. They hadn’t exactly gotten him anywhere the first time. Gradually, his entire body began to react, and Shay was pissed at himself. Pissed at the fact he still had the urge to throw himself into Drew’s arms, feel them close around him. Make him feel safe. Shay wanted to inhale his amazing alpha scent that time had dulled. He’d tried so many different colognes and oils, but he’d never been able to replicate it.
He wanted to kiss Drew, taste him. God, he was an idiot. Apparently, he was a masochist too, since he’d forgotten how it felt to be betrayed by this man.
“Drew,” Shay acknowledged, feigning a calm he didn’t feel, and saying the alpha’s name out loud for the first time in a long time…

Drew
Iam going to be civil. I am going to be civil.Drew repeated the chant over and over, telling himself that he would not let his emotions get the best of him.
The sound of his name on Shay’s lips had those good intentions out the window in one fell swoop.
“So you remembered,” Drew said, his frame rigid, his eyes narrowed on Shay, “I would have thought the reason for your absences all these years was some version of amnesia. Maybe you woke up and hit your head and blanked out on my name, my existence?”
With every word Drew spoke, he saw Shay’s body tense and his face tighten. He shouldn’t have taken pleasure in seeing the calm façade the omega had tried to convey crumble, but he did. His emotions were rioting, everything in him screaming in agony and anger, and Drew wasn’t sure which to focus on.
Drew's eyes took Shay in like a thirsty man roaming the desert coming upon his first glimpse of water. He was as stunning as Drew remembered, the same stunning dark eyes, but Shay had cut off all that glorious hair.
Like it had the first time. desire coursed through his veins. Drew realized when it came to Shay, he might be able to control himself, but he couldn’t control his feelings, and didn’t that just make him an absolute idiot?
Drew knew he was being an asshole, but he was pissed at himself for still having feelings for Shay, even after the way the omega had run out on him, with no word, no explanation.
After letting the silence stretch, making sure it was a tad uncomfortable, and Shay was fidgeting, Drew finally spoke.
“I'd like to come in, if I may,” Drew said it in a pleasant tone, but made sure it was less a question and more of a statement. “We have a lot to discuss wouldn’t you say?”
Drew stretched his hand out, the one with their son’s backpack that Shay had forgotten at Grayson’s.
Shay didn’t say a word, he simply stepped aside for Drew to step into his home. Drew handed the backpack to Shay, making sure their fingers didn’t touch in the exchange. With the emotions roiling within him, he figured it was best no part of their body touch at the moment.
“Thank you.”
Those were the first words he heard out of Shay’s mouth. The omega turned and walked into the house, not inviting Drew to follow, but he did.
Shay was definitely letting Drew know how he felt about having him in his space. Well tough… he’d better get used to it.
“Is the boy in bed?” Drew asked, as much as he wanted to have it out with Shay, he didn't want his son to see him and Shay arguing either.
