“I can’t imagine how terrified you were. You know you could have asked me for help at any time back then and I would have—”
Before he could finish the sentence, Shay cut him off, “I don’t think talking about the past is the way to start this vacation.”
Drew lifted Shay’s bags into the trunk, then paused to look in the omega’s eyes, but Shay was doing his best to make sure that didn’t happen.
“Papa, Daddy, let’s goooooo,” Andy’s whine interrupted the moment.
“This is isn’t over. We have to talk at some point, Shay, because if you can’t look me in the eye after all this time when I bring that up, well, it means we have a lot to talk about.”
Shay met Drew’s eye for a moment, but looked away quickly. “There’s nothing to talk about. We had one night together, and now we have a child. The end.”
“If you could look me in the eye and say that I would be more inclined to believe you.”
Shay shrugged, but still didn’t look at Drew, “I’ll just go make sure Andy is buckled in, so we can get going.”
Drew didn’t bother pointing out that he’d buckled their son in and he was fine. He let Shay go for now. It was almost a month now, and they’d been dancing around this issue. He was done.
Enough was enough.

Shay
Shay didn’t like the determined set to Drew’s jaw. He knew that look, he’d seen a mini version of it. With their son. It ended up in a tantrum where he’d stomped his feet till Shay had to give him what he wanted.
Shay had a feeling that wouldn’t be the case with Andy’s father. He had a feeling he was in for a conversation he’d been avoiding since Drew had walked back into their lives.
Shay had to admit, spending time with the alpha made him doubt some things. Granted, he still didn’t know the man as well as he could have, but from what he did know, Shay found it hard to believe that Drew was a cheating bastard.
Those were two of the nicer words he’d used to describe the alpha back in the day.
Shay’s mind kept telling him that Drew was a good man, but his heart wasn’t listening. His heart was holding onto things that his head had clearly forgotten, and Shay wasn’t sure which one to listen to anymore.
This was going to be a long car ride. If the gods were kind, they would make him sleep all the way through.
Shay considered getting into the back with Andy, but decided he wasn’t that much of a coward, and got in the front seat.
In for a penny… and all that. Besides, Shay had a feeling avoiding Drew wouldn’t be as easy when they were in the same house for the foreseeable future.
He just had to keep reminding himself that the only reason Drew invited Shay was for Andy, and Shay would have to keep reminding himself of that during this vacation before he made a fool of himself.

Shay must have fallen asleep, because he was woken by a hand gently shaking him. He opened his eyes and tried looking around, but the sun was too bright, so he shut them immediately and groaned.
Drew didn’t ask. The alpha simply lifted him out of the car, making Shay gasp and wrap his arms around Drew’s neck, leaning into his strong chest.
Shay couldn’t help the sigh that escaped. He hadn’t been this close to the alpha since the night he barged into Shay’s home. And Shay had re-lived that night over and over in his dreams, and sometimes when he wasn’t dreaming.
His little heat-helper had been used more times than Shay cared to remember, and every time he came, it was with Drew’s name on his lips.
Next thing Shay knew, he was placed on a bed, and his shoes were taken off for him. Shay tried rubbing the sleep from his eyes, but he was too exhausted. He tried sitting up, but Drew pushed him back in bed, “Sleep. You look like you need it. Andy is playing in his room next door. I’ll keep an eye on him. You need to get some rest.”
“But, I have to unpack,” Shay yawned the words out.
“Ruth will get that done for you, and her wife, Sophie, will be doing all the cooking. You’re on vacation, love. Rest,” Drew pushed him back into bed and placed a kiss on his forehead.
Shay’s eyes closed, and he whispered, “Wish I was, but I’m not.”
