Drew

Drew was tired, if he could have skipped this birthday party he would have done so happily, especially since he’d just gotten off of a flight, not too long ago. The fact was he probably could have calledrain check, and skipped out of the celebration, and his friends wouldn’t have minded. But he’d been traveling so much the past year expanding and diversifying the family business he’d barely had time to hang out with the guys.

Besides, it was Linc’s birthday. And since Drew happened to be in the country, in the same state, he couldn’t miss it. Drew planned to show his face at Nickolas’ home where the celebration was being thrown, wish Linc a happy birthday, and then disappear to one of Nic’s guest rooms, and crash there for the night.

He stepped out of his car after parking it in the far side of Nic’s circular driveway, away from all the other cars. There was no chance Drew was coming down to move his car for anyone to leave after he had found a bed.

Drew stepped out of his car and walked up to the front door of his friend’s home, it was that weird time in the year between summer and fall, so the weather couldn’t decide if it was going to be warm, or just the right side of chilly.

Drew stepped inside, the door open for the party. He looked around and spotted his close friends immediately. Nickolas, Lincoln, and Grayson. Colt also stood with them, but the half-British alpha was more friends with Nic and Linc than he was with Drew. His two friends had befriended the other alpha during their time in England.

Drew walked up to the guys, saying hello to a couple of people he knew on the way.

“Happy Birthday, man,” Drew said, when he got to where they stood. His friend stepped forward and Drew gave Linc a hug and clap on the back.

They stepped back and there was a huge grin on Linc’s face as he said, “Didn’t think you’d make it, man. I know you went down south to check on a new holding there.”

“Just got in a couple of hours ago, didn’t even bother going home,” Drew smiled tiredly, “I sent my driver home after taking the car from him and drove straight here.”

“My man,” Nic grinned, coming forward and giving Drew a hug too.

“Tired as fuck though,” Drew said, and the yawn that followed punctuated his sentence, “I knew if I went home, there was no chance in hell of me making it out of there for at least twenty-four hours.”

“I appreciate it,” Linc grinned, and Drew knew he did.

He and Linc had been friends for as long as Drew could remember. Himself, Nic, Lincoln, and Grayson.

Their parents had run in the same circles, and they had met at one of those annoying events that Drew’s parents had made him attend wearing a monkey suit when he would have rather stayed home.

They’d all been stuck in the kids’ area, and after meeting a couple of times, somehow a friendship had formed even though they weren’t all the same age. Drew being the youngest in the group and Gray the oldest.

That was how they’d all started hanging out, even at school. They’d all attended the same elite prep school, even though none of them had been friends till that point. And now almost twenty years later, somehow the friendship held up.

“Dirty thirty, huh?” Drew teased, “How do you feel being an oldie? Officially in the old guys’ club with those ones.”

“Hey,” all his friends protested at the same time.

“Watch who you call old,” Gray playfully groused, coming in for a quick hug, “Good to see you man, even though you look like you’re running on empty.”

“Man, this is fumes, not even empty,” Drew admitted.

“Watch it, kid,” Linc teased. “You should respect your elders.”

“Elders my ass,” Drew snorted. “You guys are barely a year older. Well except Grayson, he’s practically ancient.”

“Fuck off,” Grayson laughed, “I’m not even thirty-two yet.”

“I rest my case. As the only one left in their twenties, I feel like I’m hanging out with elders now, so it is kind of my duty to keep you young…” Drew smirked.

“I think the lack of sleep is making him delusional,” Nic deadpanned.

“Someone get this man some alcohol,” Grayson waved towards a waiter, “maybe if he’s drinking he’ll stop running his mouth.”

Drew snorted, “Don’t count on it, I know y’all are too old to do this anymore, but multitasking is still a thing.”

Colt, who was usually the quiet one among them, at least to Drew, since he wasn’t as close to the other alpha as he was to the other guys, threw his head back and laughed.
