Page 32 of Unforgettable Omega
He wanted that family unit with Shay, and Andy.
He just had to figure why, when he’d looked in his omega’s eyes, there was a look there that screamed caution and hurt, and they were all directed at him.
Drew should probably hate himself for the fact that he let Shay turn him inside out again but he didn’t care. For the first time in a long while, he felt whole. It wasn’t just the great sex, or the sizzling chemistry.
No, it was the feeling of peace that just being around Shay gave him, the feeling that hadn’t disappeared even when he’d wanted to wring Shay's neck from hiding their child from him.
But Drew didn’t want to be pissed at Shay, and neither did he want to watch the omega maybe fall in love with someone else, and watch another alpha co-parent his child. He just had to figure out how to get over the pissed part.
Shay was it for him, time away from him had proven that. But he knew he couldn’t rush into things the way he had the first time. No, he would have to slow play this. Figure out why Shay left in the first place, and maybe, if the Gods were with him, he would end up like all his friends—happily married with a bunch of kids of his own.
Drew said a prayer to any of the gods that might be listening, that everything went well, and for Shay to give them a chance, because Drew still couldn’t figure out what had spooked the man the first time. And if it would happen again.
He went to sleep hoping and worrying that it wasn’t because Shay woke up and regretted his decision. He hoped it wasn’t because Shay decided Drew wasn’t the one for him. Drew wasn’t sure how he would deal with that.
All he was certain about was Shay and Andy. They were his, and the first step was spending more time with them. It was a good thing Andy was on holiday in three weeks. Till then he would help Shay out with whatever he needed.
He knew Nickolas did the school run on his way to work most days. Maybe Drew could get on that too.
He shot his friend a text asking what time the school run was supposed to be. Nickolas replied immediately, and Drew set himself an alarm, so he could turn up at Shay’s home and surprise him.
He needed to spend as much time with his son and his omega as possible. And this was just the first step. His endgame was figuring out a way to get them into his home. It had worked for Linc, and Gray’s different situation, but he figured if Shay was under his roof he had a better chance of… well forever.
Till then he just had to be a good dad, to Andy, and show Shay he could be a good parent. He fell asleep with the sound of his son’s voice in his head calling him Dad.
Yeah, failing wasn’t an option.
This was the negotiation of his life… or maybe for his life. The life he wanted.

Shay
“Papa,” Andy ran up to Shay, holding up his arms.
Shay got on his knees and hugged him to his body, while he covered Andy’s face in kisses.
“Hello, sweet boy,” his heart melted with love, as it always did around his son. “So what happened at preschool today?”
“I did the numbers. I count all of them, one, two, four.” His boy announced proudly. Shay was about to correct his son, but before he could Andy blurted, “Three.” He corrected himself and smiled proudly before going back to his counting.
“Oh, son, that was so good,” Shay clapped and planted kisses all over Andy’s face when he was done, making his son giggle happily.
Shay couldn’t help but savor moments like this. He’d read that very soon his little boy might not be so onboard with kisses from his papa. Especially not in public. He was definitely not looking forward to that day.
Andy moved out of his arms and ran into the house, and Shay stood, coming face to face with Drew.
“Are you coming in?” Shay asked, looking at Drew from under his lashes. He stepped back from the door, letting Drew know he could come in if he wanted to.
“Yeah, I can stay for a while.” Drew stepped into Shay’s house and he paused to hang his light coat up in the small entrance closet.
Drew had been a great help to him. The first day he’d shown up early to take Andy to school, Shay was surprised, but not in a bad way. He just hadn’t expected it. A part of him figured Drew would be a weekend dad, taking Andy out at the weekend and that would be the extent of his involvement.
But that was so far from the case.
This whole week, like clockwork, Drew showed up to take Andy to school. Shay had gone along on the first and second days. But then on the third day his son had been at the door waiting for his daddy, and Shay decided car time could be a good bonding time for them. It seemed to be working, since Andy’s vocabulary now consisted of Daddy said this… or did you know Daddy rides a horse, and he can fly a plane.
Shay would admit he’d learned more about Drew from their son, than he’d ever known.
