Gray chimed in, his eyebrows furrowed, “Okay, I know it’s been a minute since we spoke, but I thought that was over?”
Drew rubbed the back of his neck, “It was… is, I mean, but she thinks that, you know, I just need some space, so she hasn’t stopped calling. Blowing up my phone really. I hate to say it, man,” Drew’s lips pinched together, “I think I dodged a bullet there. Don’t get me wrong she’s great, but…” Drew sighed again, thinking of how to put it.
“It just wasn’t right,” Linc supplied.
“Yeah, like it was good, we were fine, but it was just that, you know… fine,” Drew added, “And honestly, the time away made me realize even more that it’s for the best.”
“So what’s the problem?” Nic asked, with a frown on his face.
“She’s not hearing me, man,” Drew sighed.
“Ahhh,” Grayson chimed in, “Well you’ve been clear with her, so just, you know, ignore her. She’ll get the message… sooner or later.”
“Right,” Drew snorted, “I mean, you’re right. Okay, that’s a problem for another day. I need food and a shower, maybe a little more of this Scotch,” Drew threw the rest of the drink in his glass back, “then bed. I’ll catch y’all later.”
“Need me to get you anything?” Nic began.
“Nah man, stay, enjoy the party, I know where everything is. We’ll hang in the morning, yeah…” Drew punctuated his sentence with a yawn.
“Go before we have to carry your ass up to bed,” Linc snorted, “Oh, and call me before you jet off again,” his friend added.
“What he said,” Grayson said.
“I will man,” Drew replied, “I’m in town for a stretch actually.”
“Good,” Gray replied, “Now go crash. You look like you’re falling asleep where you stand.”
Drew snort-laughed, as he walked away. His friends weren’t wrong, he was worn out, and a second from falling asleep on the nearest surface. Although that warm body would be just the icing–on the shower, food–cake, before sleep followed.
Then again, he wasn’t the one for one-night stands. It wasn’t his thing – not since early in his college days anyway.
Drew made his way through the crowd who seemed to be having a good time. The party was picking up, if the grinding, that was passing for dancing, was anything to go on.
Drew walked down the hallway to the kitchen and was grateful when the door closed behind him. Even though the music was nowhere near as loud as they would have had it in their college days or even their twenty-fifth birthdays, the muted sound was still very welcome.
Turning, Drew paused when instead of Jean, Nickolas’ housekeeper, he found a man, a beautifully proportioned man, with long hair as dark as coal, and miles of pale creamy leg on display in the denim shorts he had on.
And it was a guy, even though his slight frame, and the little flare to his hips, and the high firm ass might have someone else thinking otherwise.
Fuck!Drew thought, the weariness he’d been feeling suddenly a thing of the past, as he took in those legs that looked like they went on forever.
Drew was shocked, in all his years since he’d figured out that his flag flew for both genders, he had never been so quickly aroused—at least not since he’d learned to control himself back in his high school days. And especially not just by looking at someone’s body, without even seeing their face.
“Hey there,” Drew called out.
The huskiness in his tone wasn’t even contrived. His whole body had noticed the sexy specimen before him, and from the back, apparently, Drew’s body liked what it saw.
Drew didn’t get a response, and he moved in closer, to where the man was standing, or leaning, waiting for a pot of coffee to brew.
The man didn’t reply until Drew came up beside him and tapped him on the shoulder. The yelp that followed had Drew stepping back, his hands in the air.
“Oh crap,” Drew muttered, as he realized he'd startled the man, who had his earbuds in.
The beautiful man stepped back and turned facing Drew, eyes wide.
“Sorry, I didn’t realize there was someone else here,” the beautiful creature with the dark eyes, almost as dark as the hair on his head, Drew noted.
Apparently, the front, was better than the back, that face…Fuck. Drew had never laid eyes on someone so beautiful.
