Wait, that didn’t sound right. Chewing on the end of a pen, she eyed the tall demon lounging on the island with a cup of coffee.
“Is it an emu who puts his head in the sand?” She asked suddenly and watched his shaved head rise from his tablet. She’d seen no one work as much as he did, and yet, no one could accuse Lawless of being anything remotely like a business executive.
“Ostrich,” he answered. His deep voice stroked heat over her skin.
Ah, she knew it was one of those giant feathered creatures.
She’d had his silent attention ever since she braved stepping out of the bedroom a few hours back. Saturdays were her relaxing days. Though she often geeked it with writing assignments early, much to Robinne’s disgust, who was all about the party lifestyle.
Angela preferred biker parties, not a frat house, jock parties, but her friend didn’t get that. She’d tried only once to bring Robinne with her. Angela knew her two worlds would forever remain apart.
She was good with that anyway because she didn’t like to share her family.
Lawless would call her a possessive beast.
Her heart leaped into her throat when she saw him move. For an hour, he’d been sitting at the counter while she watched TV in the other room, but it didn’t stop her eyes from straining his way. She was still getting used to seeing him in relaxed clothing and not his biker leather cut and serial killer long black coat.
Lawless wore tracksuit bottoms. Who knew?
And his ass looked amazing in them. Damn him. High and tight. An ass a girl would want to grope around the clock if he were her man.
And he had two new tattoos, one on each forearm.
When did he get new ink? In the days since being released from prison? Or while in there? She didn’t even know if that was possible. But he was Lawless. If he wanted something, he got it.
Why was that sexy as fuck?
Because it was Lawless and watching him own the world in his dark way was intoxicating. A world she wanted to be part of so desperately, she didn’t care if it stained her too.
She’d tried dating every type of man there was in the past few years. Older. Professional people in business, college boys, famous and ordinary. Trying to put her heart in anyone else’s hands, and nothing worked. It was like she was dead inside and only came alive in front of Lawless.
He prowled around the kitchen, refilling a coffee mug, then he opened the fridge and brought a few things out. Angela had abandoned the show to watch him instead.
The bare feet poking out the ends of his pants nearly did her in when she caught a peek.
Without realizing it, she’d put Lawless in a box. This out-of-this-world man wouldn’t do mundane things like relax at home in dressed-down clothes and bare feet.
Her gaze flickered between bubble butt and feet, so distracted. She didn’t know he’d approached until he was in front of her, and Angela wheezed out a pathetic whimper of surprise.
Lawless smirked as she looked up.
A towering beast with freshly clipped hair, shorter than it was yesterday.
“Here,” he said, pushing out a plate heaped with sandwiches and chips. “You need to eat more than popcorn.”
Frowning, she took the plate, thanked him, and watched his long stride back to the kitchen, where he retook his seat, scrolling on his tablet.
Feeding her.
Kissing her.
Giving her a roof over her head.
Anyone would guess Lawless liked her.
Her thumping heart sure did.
He sat there for a further half an hour. The food was gone, and Angela was curious, like a cat, so she inched over. A little more until Angela was almost craned over Lawless’ wide shoulder to see what he was up to.
