Luck was on Angela’s side when she woke early the following day.
The snow had finally stopped falling.
She felt like a criminal sneaking around the cabin, trying to make little noise as she showered, dressed, and collected her school stuff, not even stopping to make a slice of toast. Ignoring her rumbling belly, she’d stop at the diner. Only when she’d driven down the mountain did she finally let out her nervous breath.
Lawless wanted space? Well, she was giving it to him.
There were four classes to attend that day, back to back. By the time Angela was finished, she was tired and hungry. She finally unmuted her phone to see five missed calls from the stoic love of her life.
And a text.
Grumpy: Where are you? Call me right now, Angela.
Angela: Things to do. I’ll be back late. xoxo
Robinne was out of town for the weekend, and plans to hang out at Zara’s house went down in flames when she came out of the library and walked across the quad, her boots crunching the snow beneath her, seeing Judge resting against the MC SUV parked next to hers.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she snapped, coming to a halt in front of the truck.
“He sent you?”
Grinning, Judge straightened to his full height. “Yup.”
“Didn’t you tell him you’re not watching me anymore?”
“Have you ever tried to tell Lawless no? it’s easier to do as he says.”
Cursing under her breath, she yanked open the passenger door. “I suppose I can’t even drive myself home, huh?”
“Nope,” he flashed his white teeth, “he was pretty pissed you’d left in the Ram. I’ll come back for it and bring it to the cabin later.”
“That giant walking prostate, I’m gonna kill him.”
Chuckling, Judge climbed in, and she stared. “Listen to me, Judge, you better not bully Christie like this. She’s a lady and deserves better.”
That’s when her friend became serious, and she was pleased to see how much he loved his woman. “Christie is my queen, and I’m the lucky dickhead to breathe her air.”
“Good boy, keep it that way. Now drive me home, I have an enforcer to stab.”
“You really gonna stick him? Because as a club prospect, it’s something I might have to stop.”
“Of course not. I love him. But I’m pissed he sent you instead of coming himself. He’s too good to grovel.”
“Fuck, Lawless met his match in you, mamacita, let’s get your ass home so that I can get my ass home to my woman and the fan-fucking-tastic chili she’s making.”
Letting herself into the cabin, she turned to wave to Judge before he set off down the mountain again. Not even out of her jacket. The messenger bag was dumped on the floor when she felt his stare. Lawless was standing in the archway, dressed as always in black, like he had a crime to do at a moment’s notice and needed to be ready for it.
His eyes burned a slow path down the length of her body, touching her with invisible hands. The cat came running over, rubbing along her jeans leg.
“Oscar, go to your room, mom and dad are going to fight.”
“Are we?” He asked. Lawless, not the cat.
Shaking out of the calf-length puffer coat, she dropped it next to her bag. Intent on ripping into him for pulling that stunt with Judge. But as Angela stepped forward, Lawless matched them, and it was then she felt the air whipping around, drowning her in the lustful way he was watching her. His head dropped, touching his chin to his chest.
Always watching her.
