Saint by name, but this boy here would be all sinner; it was as if Lawless could predict the future.
After all, he was made by surprise and magic, according to Angela.
He questioned if it was devil magic and voodoo and got her cold shoulder for two days straight.
Lawless always thought he could handle anything.
Death, destruction, chaos, wars, and enemies, he took it all in his stride.
Saint had terrified him from the moment they found out he was inside Angela.
Even with the heavy load of law school, Angela breezed through the whole thing.
Surprise, we’re having a baby. Okay, let’s buy a crib.
“What’s all this caterwauling? I fed you not even two hours ago. I know you’re nosy like your mom and need to see everything, but the adults need sleep, you know?”
Saint battered his fist, waiting for the bottle to come to his mouth seconds later. Like Lawless, always wanting more of her, Saint demanded more breast milk than Angela could produce. The bottled shit filled the kid up. It worked out better, Angela got to sleep, and Lawless did all the nighttime stuff.
It had been a head fuck for eleven months ever since they realized Saint existed, and though he still didn’t know if he was a capable dad, he’d fallen under Saint’s spell.
Turned out, Lawless could be surprised, after all. It had taken one conversation.I think you’ve knocked me up, grumpy. And then, one piss stick telling them she was pregnant.
A nutcase shouldn’t get all this good in his life.
His soul was blackened a long time ago, unredeemable in many eyes.
But two perfect things claimed him as their own.
Saint settled into sleep a bit later, and Lawless turned to see Angela framed in the doorway. “Thought you were sleeping?”
“I like to see you two cuddling. Did he eat okay?”
“He has your appetite.”
“He’s so perfect, isn’t he? I mean, I haven’t seen all the data, but I think he’s the best baby in the world.”
“Naturally,” Lawless agreed with arrogance because it was true.
She grinned tiredly, and Lawless picked her up, taking her back to their bed.
Once there, she found her place, half sprawled on top of him, her leg bent on his stomach. Driving Lawless mad.
They hadn’t played roughly in months, not since her seventh month of pregnancy; he’d needed all that time to recover; she’d drained the life out of his body. Lawless thought he was highly sexed, and then he knocked Angela up, and she turned into a fiend who needed sexual tuning around the clock. It was a wonder he could still stand.
Now, as he pushed a hand into the back of her shorts to grip her plump ass, she whimpered. His kinky games would wait until the morning.
For now, his woman and the pup were safe under their roof, so he settled down.
Mouth to ear, he shared. “For as long as I’m breathing, I will protect you and love you like a madman.”
“Mm, I know, grumpy. But I want you to breathe forever, so it looks like we’ll be together for a long time.”
“Fate catches up to a man, angel. You might not have me as long as you want.”
All contingencies were in place. She’d never want for anything.
Silence coated their bedroom walls. Then she asked, “Do you mean you deserve to die?”
