Page 40 of Darling Psycho
Maybe he just didn’t want Angela to fight her own battles.
He couldn’t stop every sexual predator out there. He was only one emotionally devoid robot, not an army. But this ratchet pisshole who liked to sell flesh too young was something Lawless could make right.
He was no hero and wouldn’t thank anyone for calling him one.
He was fixated, which was never a good thing for the other person. Because now he’d unlocked his jaw and was willing to consume all the poison.
For his stubborn badass, who was plotting his murder.
He chuckled and strode out of their cabin.
Their cabin.
Every fucking thing was going to be theirs, eventually. He just had to get the badass on side.
Two projects juggling in the air. He was practically giddy.
Though, if he told Angela he considered her as a project, she’d no doubt pout.
Hm. It might be enjoyable to see. Lawless filed that away for another time.
He met up with the guys at the club. It wasn’t a church meeting, but they gathered outside the unlit firepit. Lawless gave them a rundown of what he’d uncovered about Ruiz.
“From what I’ve collected, soon as I put Bates Carmine in the ground, Ruiz stepped into his perverted shoes and took over that side of his business.”
“That’s fuck all to do with you, Law.” Snake scowled like a protective bear.
“Calm down, Terminator. I’m not taking the blame. Perverts will be perverts. But this dirty piece of shit regularly comes to our shores from Mexico, which doesn’t sit well with me. The Butcher’s old lady already had a run-in with his Mrs, remember?”
“I’m in,” the VP spoke, and Lawless snickered.
“Just like that with no info or plan?”
Hawk shrugged, leaning against the side of the clubhouse. “It’s been a slow summer.”
“Do we know if Benz is in bed with Ruiz?”
Lawless made a noise low in his throat because he didn’t have the answer yet. “He says not.”
“You believe him?” Followed Rider.
“I believe someone when they show I can believe them. Right now, he’s in his feelings over dumb shit. He gets reckless when that happens.”
“And how do you feel if we take him out?”
Lawless had weighed that in, and though he had a history with Benz, one that went far back, but if he chose the wrong side of the line, that was on Benz.
“If he’s as bad as Ruiz, he goes down.”
Bottom line. He’d given Jay the heads up about what he might be wrapped up in. If he continued, then that was on him.
A man lived and died by his own sword.
And Lawless was no fucking hero with a flapping cape and fake glasses.
For the rest of the day, he worked on the computer, eating crap food, half-listening to tales of Snake’s kids, and watching Angela’s tracking app.
He’d leveled up in his creeper act and was deep into hacking the cameras in her psychology class, watching her listen to the professor, share some words with her seatmate and then type on her laptop. She raised her hand a lot to debate questions. When the class finished, he switched off and concentrated on delving into Ruiz’s business endeavors.
