He was moving on; it didn’t mean it wasn’t hurting to let go.
Control freaks hated to lose.
But this was a game he’d never been able to win. He’d known it from the start and still played for far too long.
Love was so fucking messy, and as much as he’d wanted Penn back over the years, he’d resented the man for the hold he’d had on him.
He’d lost his heart. And his spleen, thanks to a bullet, he wasn’t losing any more organs over him.
Finally, he could be free.
Deviants weren’t meant to be tied down in a non-kinky way. But then Penn showed it was possible, so who knew what was in store for Jay.
Jay’s life was changing.
It wastime.
He couldn’t continue with his hedonistic, dangerous lifestyle forever. And it wasn’t even getting shot to give him that clarity.
It was the girl with warm brown eyes.
And Angela would probably never know how she’d altered him.
“It’s been a decade or more in the making for this goodbye.”
“Don’t be dramatic, Benz.”
Smirking, Jay rolled a shoulder. “Old habits. But I mean it. I got things tied up here, the house is sold, and the manager has things in hand with the casino, which means I won’t need to be back soon.”
“You’re really leaving?”
“It’s what goodbye means. I’ve been away from New York too long, and business needs my full attention.” Life needed his full attention again.
“It’s been a long time since I stole your wallet.”
Jay chuckled. “Should have cut your hand off. It would have saved me all this trouble.”
Glancing at the plane, he knew it would wait as long as needed, but he wanted to get this over with, so he offered out a hand.
Penn shocked Jay by stepping forward, and he hugged him. “You’re an asshole most of the time, but you know you can call me if your smart mouth gets taken hostage. I don’t hate you, Benz.”
Jay snickered. “Now that’s a lie, darling boy. But I am pleased to hear you haven’t cut ties with me altogether. I doubt I’ll invite myself to Christmas dinner next year, though. You two look disgustingly blissful.”
“You should try it one day.”
“Me monogamous? Wash your mouth out with whiskey. That’s blasphemous where I come from.”
“It happens.”
Jay half-smirked. Yes, he’d watched it with his own two eyes. The biggest lone wolf had fallen for little red riding hood and now ate raw meat out of her hand.
“You should set Marco free. Give him a chance at a life outside of you.”
“What’s this? Life lessons for Jay night?” He asked. “Believe it or not, Marco is a friend I enjoy having around; he’s also free to do as he pleases.”
“You like him fawning over you, and it wasn’t so long ago you were ready to drop him.”
“We do crazy things for love, darling. But I’ve recovered from that illness, and I’ll consider what you said. It looks like my plane is ready to leave. Don’t get yourself killed, Penn.”
