Every night when she got home, he’d cooked dinner with actual real ingredients. Angela loved to eat; she just didn’t like making food. It always took too long, and why else were takeout menus and food delivery apps invented if not for her to use?
Steaming plates of pasta and buttery vegetables, heaping mounds of potatoes and chicken. As firm as her resolve was, she could never resist food, so, each night, she fell on the plate the same way Oscar did his feeding bowl.
If she didn’t know better, she’d swear that madman was conditioning her with food because last night, she found three pints of her favorite ice cream in the freezer.
Who did that?
She took one pint to bed with her and scowled, eating it while her eager ears listened to every noise in the cabin, hoping it was Lawless coming home from the club... or wherever he went to.
Had he been going to see fuck buddies?
Her stomach clenched like a hot pinch of dread at the thought.
It was only inevitable, wasn’t it? He’d been in prison; didn’t all men want to sow their celibate oats when they were released?
Uncaring it was his cabin, she’d stab any bitch or guy that came through the door to fuck him. She was not listening to that racket.
Not in a million years had she ever been able to imagine him with an old lady.
Lawless protected his MC family.
But he was far from warm. And he wasn’t that guy who showered with flattery or bought flowers. She now wondered if he had a calendar for birthdays. However, he’d always remembered hers, so that point might not count.
Anyway, Lawless lacked all affection in the traditional sense.
But the thought of one day him meeting a woman he vibed with and marrying her, making her his old lady with his property patch proudly worn put ice cubes through Angela’s veins.
Just because Lawless wasn’t shaped in the conventional happily ever after package didn’t mean some person wouldn’t catch his eye one day.
He wasgorgeous.
Someone had to be brave or have aninsanelystrong backbone to take him on.
And if that ever happened, Angela would have to leave. She’d live on the moon or an alien planet, so she didn’t have to witness what Lawless looked like in love.
Even the errant thought of it made her heart pump twice as hard.
Every memory of him, she’d pushed into nooks and crevices of her mind, hoarding them like a squirrel would its winter nuts. Afraid she’d forget something significant or small.
With Lawless, she’d always wanted to know it all.
It was why she’d been a clingy teen. Embarrassing to look back on how hard she attached herself to him.
She dated a millionaire for a few weeks last year when he came to guest speak at her college. After two hours, at a drinks mixer, he asked Angela out. Within two days, he whisked her off to Ibiza for a weekend of partying.
That should give her some cool points.
There was only one other male who could drag Angela’s attention from Lawless, and she grinned down at Zane, yanking at her pants leg. “Tiss, Anga.” He demanded, arms up.
“You are the biggest flirt; we’re going to have to lock up all the girls when you’re old enough, Zane Marinos.” Laughing, she picked up the small giggling body, and he looped arms around her neck and slapped a wet kiss to her cheek.
God, she loved him, Harper and Knox, too. She felt like their big sister and tried to spend as much time with them as she could.
“That one is just like his father,” Zara remarked, smiling. “Did you kiss Angie goodnight?”
“Tiss, mama.” He all but threw himself into Zara’s arms. Good thing she was agile and caught the daredevil toddler.
“See what I mean? Just like your daddy.” To Angela, she said, “Are you sticking around while I put the monsters to bed?”
