That was easy to answer.
The same answer Lawless used for most of the shit in his life because it was true. Since she was a crying fourteen-year-old clinging to his shirt front, with her little broken heart held out for him to fix, his reason for everything became clear.
“She decided she wanted it.”
And Lawless’ entire purpose in life was to give his Angela whatever the fuck she wanted. It was only fair since she made him a breathless idiot each time he put his eyes on her.
“You’re so pus—”
Without lifting his head, Lawless said, “finish that thought, Son, and there will be one less guest at this thing today.”
It wasn’t the first threat his boy had heard, and the punk chuckled, unfazed.
They’d raised a hoodlum who ran feral, knowing Lawless and Angela would move the earth to protect him.
He blamed Angela for how he was turning out.
It could have nothing to do with Lawless’ tainted blood flowing in his son’s veins.
Finished with his job, Lawless washed and dried his hands at the sink before facing his son again. “I trust you’re not gonna bitch to your mom about your embarrassment on her happy day.”
Saint’s head whipped up, and he looked like he wanted to go nuclear as the fists hanging at his sides clenched. Lawless hid his knowing smile.
“Of fucking course I’m not, Dad.Fuck’s sake.”
He knew that. As much as a little shit Saint could be and the trouble he liked to dig himself into, he’d do nothing to hurt his mom. Angela controlled their ship with love and affection. Saint would slice his hand off before disappointing her, primarily because Lawless would stand over the boy while he did it.
“Could you maybe, for me and my sanity, lay off the PDA today? I gotta make a speech and shit, and I don’t think my stomach can take it.”
Lawless loved his pup and would slaughter anyone who dared hurt him. Over the years, he’d taught him how to live, protect his family, how to survive in any situation.
But when he cuffed him around the back of the neck, smirked, there was only one answer to give. “Fuck no. Suck it up, pup. What your mom wants, your mom gets, and she’s into me.”
Saint groaned, looking disgusted.
“Are you terrorizing our boy again, grumpy?” they heard from the doorway, and a scalding heat warmed Lawless’ gut, getting his eyes on Angela.
“Haven’t started yet.”
She chuckled, unrepentant about traumatizing their kid as she came to lean into his side, Lawless wrapped an arm around her waist.
Saint, grabbing his car keys, swung into a jacket. “I’m gonna wait at the club before you two make me puke.”
“Saint,” Angela said as he tried to make his escape.
The kid sighed but would never ignore her.
“Come and give me a hug first.”
He sloped over and let Angela fuss over him. “Can you tell Rider to be on time to pick me up and let Harper know if she’s late today of all days, I’ll cut her brake line.”
Chuckling, because Saint had his mom’s wicked streak too, nodded and got out of there before Lawless grabbed his woman and laid a kiss on her.
She tasted like life.
And she had changed little in all the years together, more beautiful than ever. And he’d been right, his angel had become an unreplaceable asset to the club.
“Did you free Dax?”
