“There are ways to gentle even the most untamable bikers, Robinne. You just have to know how to handle them.”
Robinne dissolved into laughter, and it brought eyes over.
Two deep blue eyes in particular.
“You look happier.”
“I am.”
“At least I know you’ll be safe with this guy. He’d break anyone in two with just a look. If I played for your team, girl, I’d be poaching him right now; he has muscles for days.”
Laughing and slightly territorial, Angela swatted her friend with a dishtowel. “He’s mine.”
Mine. Mine. Mine.
Her best friend, lover, and everything in between.
“He’s good to you?” Robinne asked. “I’m asking if he rocks your world.”
Angela wanted to guard that information like the crown jewels. She was oddly protective of what she and Lawless shared because it was still so new. But she smiled, tore her eyes from Lawless’ gaze, and told Robinne. “God...”
Robinne burst out laughing. “Hallelujah, praise the heavens. Our girl got laid at last. This makes me ridiculously happy for you.”
Voice low, leaning over the bar. “He’s so sweet too, Rob. Like he ran me a bath this morning. He always cooks whatever I want.”
“A man who cooks, oh la, la. Invite me to dinner soon.”
Robinne left a while later to go to school.
Angela had no prior warning she’d be in a standoff a while later.
But knowing she was in love with the baddest man of all gave her confidence and a little stupidity. Some of his brothers turned up, shouting out birthday greetings to her and giving smacking kisses on her cheek. Angela was kept busy so that when she glanced over at Lawless, her stomach filled with rocks, seeing an unknown woman sitting far too close.
The woman was talking. Lawless was listening.
And Angela felt sick.
She hadn’t expected to bump into his sexual past this early, and now she was a self-assured woman with a jealous streak a mile long. A newly formed jealous streak unfurled in her gut, making her crazy as she watched the intimate conversation going on.
Was she a past lover? A wannabe lover?
Angela made a horrible decision in record time and turned to her supervisor.
“Tanya, I know it’s only my second day, and you probably already think I’m a troublemaking entitled bitch because the owners are family. I’m not like that, I promise, I’ll work so hard, but see, that’s my man over there, and if I don’t shut that down right now, I’ll end up lobbing a bottle of vodka across the bar. And I’m a shit thrower. I was always picked last in gym class, so you can see where I’m going with this. I’d rather not waste a good bottle of liquor and embarrass myself.”
Angela didn’t expect her boss to burst out laughing.
“Girl, I can already tell you’re going to be fun to work with. This I have to see. Go get your man, I’ll cover the bar for a minute.”
Angela thanked her, tossed down the towel, and slid out of the exit, walking across the bar. She felt his eyes burning into her while the chippy sitting far too close flapped her gums at Lawless, smiling like a demented clown.
This time, there was no guessing what was in Lawless’ head as he watched her approach. Not from the heated smirk twitching his lips.
He knew she was fit to burst and was ready for a showdown.
Oh, she was going to give him one.
And she started by plopping onto his lap, for the first time in public in front of bikers, who were, as always, gawking.
