Susie’s head nods so hard I’m surprised it doesn’t vibrate her entire body. “Totally. I’m tired, but I have the crib set up in my room and anything else she needs is at the ready.”

Fin stands and walks over to her, puts his hands on her shoulders. “It’s gonna be a good night for you two.” Places a kiss on her forehead. “I love you. Call if you need anything.”

Susie watches as Fin turns away, then her eyes meet mine. “I’ll be coming in tomorrow with Nell in the morning. Because I’m sure I’ll be needing some coffee and for another adult to tell me I’m not fucking everything up.”

I grin. “Sounds good. I’ll see you there.”

We take a second to collect our things, and then Fin and I leave.

The thud of Susie’s door shutting us out echoing through the stairwell and pulsing into my chest, startling me slightly.
