Children have very good memories. Last time she was left behind, Susu felt so aggrieved that she remembered it exceptionally clearly.

Feng Wuyou had just straightened her lapel when she saw Xiao Jinyan carry Susu onto the bed. When Susu used to sleep alone, she would occasionally come over by herself. This was probably the innate dependency a child has on her mother.

Also, due to the lengthy separation, Susu felt insecure, which is why she came over hugging a pillow on the first night she returned.

She held Susu in her arms, her body warm and chubby, which made hugging her very comfortable.

"Mommy didn’t abandon you, you are mommy’s treasure."

Susu pouted and said, "You did, I saw with my own eyes that you left me behind."

Upon hearing this, Feng Wuyou felt even more distressed. She had been away for far too long this time, and it had frightened Susu.

Xiao Jinyan had just gotten into bed when he heard his daughter’s words, and it indicated that she really missed her mother, which is why she felt so insecure.

"Susu, your mother went to find your father, that’s why she left the Imperial Palace, but see, both your mother and father have come back now, haven’t they?"

Susu turned her head to look at Xiao Jinyan, frowned and thought for a while, "Then did mommy... abandon me... twice?"

Feng Wuyou and Xiao Jinyan exchanged glances. She felt that her daughter must have misunderstood her, no wonder she felt so insecure.

"Susu, mommy didn’t leave you behind twice. Mommy went to find your father; otherwise, she would never have left you."

"But, mommy said she wasn’t my mommy, and then she left me behind," Susu said, huffily.

Feng Wuyou feared that this long separation had affected her daughter too deeply, leaving her with a lasting shadow in her heart.

She sat up, pulling her precious daughter into her arms, and in a very tender and gentle voice, said, "Treasure, did you perhaps get it wrong? I’ve never said I wasn’t your mommy."

Susu said seriously, "Mommy’s naughty, lying is not what good children do."

Feng Wuyou looked helplessly at Xiao Jinyan, "What to do? Has our daughter been traumatized?"

Xiao Jinyan also found his daughter’s words a bit strange. Observing her, he asked tentatively, "Susu, when did your mother not want you?"

"It was..." Susu frowned and thought for a while, "Grandpa took me to see the tower, and I saw mommy there, but, mommy said she wasn’t my mommy and wouldn’t hug me."

Feng Wuyou was completely bewildered.

Xiao Jinyan said, "It must have been during our absence when the emperor took Susu out to have fun, and she might have mistaken someone for her mother, right?"

Susu then said, "That mommy and the current mommy are a bit different."

Feng Wuyou asked, "In what way are they different?"

Susu said in her milky voice, "That mommy wasn’t wearing clothes with flower colors."

In Susu’s eyes, pink was the color of flowers, and she found it very pretty.

She also clung to Xiao Jinyan saying, "It’s the same color as father’s clothes."

Xiao Jinyan, having returned today, wore a black brocade robe with a subtle pattern and tight sleeves. "So, dark color?"

Now Feng Wuyou could be sure, "You’re right, daughter. She must have mistaken another woman for her mother."

She looked down at her daughter, explaining, "Baby, that wasn’t mommy."

Susu looked puzzled, "Why do you both look so alike?"

Feng Wuyou was somewhat surprised, "That alike?"

Susu nodded vigorously, "Very, very alike."

This world has so many people; it’s inevitable some will look similar.

It was just a coincidence that Susu happened to encounter her.

She bent down and kissed her precious daughter on the forehead, "Baby, that wasn’t mommy. She just resembles mommy, so that’s why she said she wasn’t your mommy. Do you understand now?"

Susu gazed at Feng Wuyou, not fully grasping the concept, "Why isn’t she mommy?"

Little kids have lots of puzzling questions, and as a mother, Feng Wuyou certainly needed to answer her daughter’s questions patiently and attentively.

"Just like you and your brother, you look alike, but you are two people, not one. Do you understand now?"

Susu nodded, "I get it now, mommy and her are like me and Gugu."

Just when Feng Wuyou breathed a sigh of relief, she heard Susu pose another question.

"Then is mommy a younger sister or an older sister?"

Feng Wuyou looked at Susu who was curiously staring at her. Uh, did she think that she and that woman were twins?

"I only look like her; we are not sisters."

Xiao Jinyan, afraid that their daughter would continue asking, spoke softly, "Susu, it is very late; it is time to sleep."

Susu yawned, crawled up to Feng Wuyou’s cheek, and planted a kissing sound, and then she hugged Xiao Jinyan’s face and did the same before finally settling back down on the bed.
