Shen Chuwei watched Xiao Jinyan, who usually wakes up early, sleeping so deeply now?

Her gaze drifted to Xiao Jinyan’s neck, where the Adam’s apple presented a somewhat sensual arc.

She poked his Adam’s apple with her finger again.

The Adam’s apple bobbed, "Mm," a soft moan escaped from his lips.

Seeing that he still showed no signs of waking up, Shen Chuwei leaned in close to his ear and whispered softly, "Time to get up."

Lin Xian was dreaming, a scenario too explicit to describe. It all felt so unreal, with Shen Chuwei boldly teasing him, touching his Adam’s apple...

But used to waking up early as he was, the call from Shen Chuwei to get up forced him awake from his dreams. He opened his eyes with difficulty, his long, narrow phoenix eyes a mere slit that slowly widened to reveal a delicate face.

Accustomed to sleeping alone, the sight of a woman surprised him briefly before he remembered Shen Chuwei stayed the night.

His head ached slightly from a poor sleep, so he rubbed his temples. "What are you doing?" he asked.

Shen Chuwei smiled, "Calling you to get up."

Lin Xian continued to rub his temples, then propped himself up with his hands to sit on the bed, glanced out the window—it was already bright outside. Usually by this time, he would already be sitting in his wheelchair drinking tea.

Shen Chuwei also sat up and stretched, tilting her head as she watched him, noticing the dark circles under his eyes.

"Did you not sleep well last night?"

Reminded of the torture he endured all night by her hand, Lin Xian replied expressionlessly, looking at her innocent face, "It was fine."

Shen Chuwei questioned, "Then why do you have dark circles?"

Lin Xian paused upon hearing this, without a mirror he wouldn’t know if he had dark circles under his eyes.

He looked up at Shen Chuwei, seeing her still confused, and coughed lightly, "Are you still going to prepare breakfast today?"

"Of course, the meals here aren’t as delicious as the ones I make. For the sake of my taste buds, I have to spend an hour and a half preparing the meals," Shen Chuwei finished with a sigh. "It would be nice if Chun Xi were here. She’s mastered my recipes, whatever I want, she makes it for me."

Lin Xian nodded, "Indeed, as the Crown Princess, you shouldn’t have to cook."

"I’m up," Shen Chuwei said crisply, getting out of bed and putting on her shoes, then carried the medicine box and left.

Lin Xian, still seated and watching Shen Chuwei disappear at the door, thought for a moment and then lay back down to catch a bit more sleep.

Shen Chuwei returned to her Guest Room, set down the medicine box, and was about to get dressed and wash up when she saw a note on the table. She picked it up, puzzled.

She trembled when she finished reading the content of the note.

The note read, "For his sake, you truly disregard everything."

Shen Chuwei instinctively thought of the man with the mask. Only he, single-minded in his desire to kill Xiao Jinyan.

Was that shadowy figure she saw last night the masked man?

No wonder she’d been feeling uneasy, as if something was about to happen.

Snapping out of her fear, Shen Chuwei clutched the note and bolted out.

"Bang"—the door was pushed open forcefully.

Lin Xian was woken up by the loud noise—just as he opened his eyes, he saw a figure rush over in a panic.

"Husband, my feelings last night weren’t wrong, look," Shen Chuwei hurriedly handed him the note in her hand.

Lin Xian was still not fully awake. He hesitated for two seconds before taking the note from her hand and scanning the words.

His phoenix eyes narrowed, "He knows you?"

Shen Chuwei shook her head emphatically, "How could I possibly know such a psycho? I don’t know him. I saw him for the first time that night."

Lin Xian showed her the written side of the note, "But the lines suggest that he knows you."

"I really don’t know him." Shen Chuwei recalled the masked man’s behavior from that night, goosebumps forming, and she shivered, "But his actions were indeed strange, like a psycho’s."

Lin Xian remembered that night—the masked man was more than weird, he was irrational.

"What exactly did he tell you that night? Why did he kidnap you and then let you go?"

Shen Chuwei blinked her lovely big eyes and began to fib, "Maybe because killing a defenseless woman would be disgraceful, he felt it would tarnish his reputation, so he let me go?"

Having spent some time with her, Lin Xian could tell it was a lie.

"I’m asking you seriously, don’t make up nonsense."

Shen Chuwei couldn’t tell him that she had agreed to jump off the tower to save him from the masked man that night.

"Husband, we can’t understand the mind of a psycho with our normal thinking. A psycho, in speech and behavior, is irrational. If they were rational, they wouldn’t be considered a psycho," she argued.

Lin Xian sharply noticed she was deliberately changing the subject. How could a person who regarded life so cheaply let someone go simply because of one extra woman’s life?

After a moment of contemplation, he asked, "Does it relate to me?"

Feeling guilty, Shen Chuwei denied, "No, I’m hungry. We can talk about everything else later, I’m going to make breakfast."

She got up to leave but was immediately grabbed and pulled back by Lin Xian.

Looking at him in confusion, she asked, "What are you doing?"

Lin Xian spoke slowly and deliberately, "Do you think by not speaking up, that masked man will stop coming for us? Aren’t you curious why he let you go? Or why he left you that note?"

Shen Chuwei thought for a moment before guessing, "Maybe he’s trying to remind me?"

Lin Xian lifted the note to show her again, "Have a look for yourself. He’s clearly saying you’re disregarding yourself for my sake. If he doesn’t know you, why would he leave such a note?"
