Lady Chang fell into the water for a long time, but luckily, as an adult, she woke up after being treated by the Imperial Doctor.

When Lady Chang woke up, the first thing she felt was an unbearable pain throughout her body, as if she had been run over by a cart, so excruciating she couldn’t breathe.

Huai Xiang was so scared that she turned pale, and even though she saw Lady Chang wake up, she was still shivering, "Master, you’re finally awake."

Lady Chang had fallen into the water before, but the last time she woke up with only dizziness, and without the feeling of intense pain throughout her body as she experienced this time, which was almost unbearable.

She frowned and asked, "What happened? Why does my body hurt so much?"

"Master, after you fell into the water, a tiger rescued you and then dragged you by the arm for a distance," Huai Xiang explained.

Lady Chang felt a chill in her heart at the mention of being carried by a tiger. She instinctively looked down to inspect her body and saw her arm was wrapped with several loops of white gauze; just a slight movement caused her immense pain.

"It hurts, it hurts so much."

Lady Chang, who had never suffered such torment, was in so much pain she could hardly speak.

After a moment of respite, Lady Chang suddenly remembered Susu and anxiously asked, "How is Susu? Is she dead?"

Huai Xiang replied, "Master, I don’t know, I only know that the Emperor and Empress are both aware now and are in Hehuan Hall. The Emperor and Empress are very angry."

Lady Chang clenched the bedcovers, feeling uneasy. What if Susu hadn’t died, what if the Emperor and Empress found out the truth, what would she do?

Just as Lady Chang was feeling restless and anxious, the shrill voice of a Eunuch came from the doorway, "The Emperor and Empress arrive."

Lady Chang’s heart thumped nervously a few times. As she looked toward the doorway, she saw the Emperor in a bright yellow Dragon Robe and the Empress walk in one after the other.

The Palace Maids kneeled to the ground, "Your Majesty, may you live forever in good fortune, your Empress, may you live forever in good fortune."

Lady Chang struggled to offer the proper tribute but, after several attempts, still couldn’t get up, so she could only say helplessly, "Your Majesty, your Empress, I really can’t get up..."

The Emperor and Empress sat down on the couch in succession.

The Emperor looked coldly at Lady Chang, "Set aside the matter of tribute for now, We have come to ask you, how did Susu come to drown?"

Lady Chang’s eyes darted quickly, whatever the case, she could not let the Emperor know it was she who pushed Susu into the water.

She began weakly, "Your Majesty, I saw Susu playing by the Lotus Pond, and afraid she was too young to recognize the danger, I went over to take her away.

But as soon as I approached, I found Susu had fallen into the Lotus Pond.

In my urgency to save her, I jumped down as well, only to find the water was deep.

Not only did I fail to rescue Susu, but I also nearly drowned. "

After finishing her account, Lady Chang quickly added, "Susu is alright, isn’t she?"

The Emperor, with a skeptical look, firmly fixed his eyes on Lady Chang, "Is everything you said true? Susu’s drowning has nothing to do with you?"

Lady Chang replied in a tone of panic and insecurity, "Your Majesty, even if you gave me a hundred times the courage, I would not dare to do such a thing. Susu is so young, so cute, and so sensible, I don’t have enough time to feel fondness for her, so how could I possibly harm her?"

Lady Chang spoke with tears streaming down her face, trying to appear as an extremely kind person who wouldn’t harm anyone.

The Empress snorted coldly, "Whether it’s true or not will be known once Susu wakes up and this Palace questions her. If you lied, this Palace will not let you off."

Lady Chang felt a twinge of fear, could it be that Susu isn’t dead?

"Your Highness, Susu is so young she doesn’t understand anything; I wanted to save her, she must be scared and might even think I pushed her."

The Empress said, "Susu is not as foolish as you think."

The Emperor also said, "Susu is very smart. Whether what you say is true or false, it will be known once Susu wakes up. You better watch yourself."

After speaking, the Emperor left with the Empress.

Lady Chang collapsed on the bed, and at this moment, she wished that Susu would never wake up because if Susu spoke out of turn, she would be finished.

But she was unable to even get out of bed now, what to do?

Seeing Huai Xiang nearby, she called out, "Huai Xiang, come here."

Huai Xiang approached and inquired, "Master, what are your orders?"

Lady Chang said, "Go to Hehuan Hall discreetly and see if Susu has woken up, and if she is still breathing, find an opportunity to get rid of her."

"Master, I dare not," Huai Xiang trembled with fear.

Lady Chang became furious upon hearing this, "What’s there to be afraid of? If Susu wakes up and says I pushed her into the water, do you think you could escape unscathed if something happens to me?"

It is said that the fortune of the servant is tied to the Master: if the Master encounters disaster, the servant surely cannot escape it.

Huai Xiang was indeed afraid, she too feared death, and she could only gamble for her life.
