The Doctor’s eyes widened—Spiritual Whiskers Grass was an extremely precious herb. If one were to buy it, there would be the option to refuse.

"That’s natural, Spiritual Whiskers Grass is worth its weight in gold..."

Shen Chuwei gave a tiny smile, "Don’t worry; the Spiritual Whiskers Grass is not for sale."

The Doctor felt that this smile was like a knife that killed without spilling blood.

The Clan Leader, also stirred by the sight of the Spiritual Whiskers Grass, turned to the Doctor, "What are you hesitating for? Since you say the herb is mild, why not try it?"

With no room for refusal nor daring to try it, the Doctor’s knees buckled, and he knelt with a thud, kowtowing, "Clan Leader, your subordinate was muddled, mistaking the nature of the herb."

With the Doctor’s kneel, everyone came to understand; the Doctor had been lying, and what Shen Chuwei said was the truth.

The Clan Leader kicked the Doctor in fury, sending him sprawling to the ground, blood spilling from his mouth.

"Traitor, you couldn’t cure my son’s illness and even tried to harm him," The Clan Leader shouted, "Guards, lock him in the dungeon and feed him to the snakes!"

"Clan Leader, have mercy... Clan Leader, please have mercy..."

Despite the Doctor’s desperate pleas for mercy, the Guards dragged him away, emotionless.

The room fell silent once again.

The Clan Leader’s trust in Shen Chuwei had grown even stronger.

"Doctor Shen, I have wronged you before. Cure my son, and your reward will be doubled," he said.

Finding the opportunity to earn an additional twenty thousand gold pieces, Shen Chuwei was quite pleased, "Thank you, Clan Leader."

Once the room had cleared, Shen Chuwei sat down beside the bed and began to take his pulse.

Ouyang Jingyuan had remained conscious all this while and had witnessed everything. He had not expected the situation to be resolved so easily by her.

As he gazed at her brows and eyes, which resembled those of Xiao Jiu, he seemed to see Xiao Jiu, all grown up.

After Shen Chuwei finished taking his pulse, she noticed Ouyang Jingyuan had been staring at her, "What’s wrong?"

Ouyang Jingyuan shook his head, "Nothing, did you come by last night?"

With a hee-hee, Shen Chuwei smiled, "Yeah, I sneaked in last night to take your pulse and found you were poisoned. I detoxified you and did some acupuncture; otherwise, I would have had to parade through the streets today."

"No wonder I felt much more spirited early this morning," Ouyang Jingyuan said before realizing an important issue. "Did you sneak out? Were you locked up? They wanted you to parade through the streets?"

"Yes, when you fainted suddenly, they thought I was to blame and locked me in the Confinement Room. I sneaked out last night to check on you," she explained.

Shen Chuwei laughed, "Shouldn’t you be worried about why you were poisoned in the first place? Who poisoned you?"

Dismissing her concern, Ouyang Jingyuan said, "Aren’t I fine now? But you, you were locked up because of me."

Shen Chuwei hesitated for a while before making a request, "Since you say so, will you do me a favor?"

Ouyang Jingyuan agreed readily, "Tell me, I will help for sure."

Shen Chuwei said, "I told you last time about my never-healing wound, right? You mentioned it might be due to a Poisonous Insect. A friend of mine is in the same situation; can you help me detoxify him?"

Ouyang Jingyuan hardly thought before answering, "Sure, when can your friend come over? I will detoxify him immediately."

Shen Chuwei was somewhat excited, "Tonight, I’ll bring him over tonight."

Ouyang Jingyuan’s lips curled into a smile, "Good, I’ll wait for you tonight."

Shen Chuwei went to look for Xiao Jinyan, happy.

Meanwhile, Lin Xian, holding Xuetuan, had been waiting for a long time without seeing Shen Chuwei and was getting anxious.

"Why hasn’t she returned yet?"

Too impatient to wait any longer, Lin Xian wheeled himself out into the courtyard, looking towards the entrance.

Xuetuan raised its head, also gazing in the direction of the door.

A man and a cat—they resembled Waiting-for-Husband Stones...

Shen Chuwei, with cheerful steps, was coming back when she saw Xiao Jinyan and Xuetuan in the courtyard from afar.

She happily opened the gate and walked in.

"Husband."

Upon seeing Shen Chuwei return, Lin Xian breathed a sigh of relief. He looked her up and down and noticed she was wearing clothes different from the night before, clearly having changed after a bath.

"It’s good that you’re back."

Shen Chuwei squatted down in front of him, rubbed Xuetuan’s forehead, and asked with a grin, "Husband, did you come out here specifically to wait for me because you were worried?"

Seeing her beaming face, Lin Xian paused and denied it, "No, it was too stuffy inside: I just needed some fresh air."

"Oh, I thought you were specifically waiting for me," Shen Chuwei said, a tinge of disappointment in her voice. She then chuckled and added, "Husband, I’ve arranged with Ouyang Jingyuan to detoxify you tonight."

Lin Xian frowned, displeased, "You told him?"

Shen Chuwei nodded, "The injury over your heart can’t be delayed any longer. The poison must be removed immediately, and the wound allowed to heal fast. Otherwise, it’s very dangerous."

Lin Xian’s voice was deep, "You trust him so much?"

Shen Chuwei replied, "Not completely, but I think he can be trusted."

Lin Xian remained silent.

"Don’t worry, if anything happens, I’ll take the blame and won’t implicate you," Shen Chuwei spoke earnestly, almost as if swearing an oath.

Lin Xian ignored her and wheeled himself back inside.

"Husband, let me help you," Shen Chuwei stood up, grabbed the push handles, and wheeled him in.

Once inside, Shen Chuwei picked up the teapot and poured herself a cup of tea, gulping down several mouthfuls—she was terribly thirsty.

After finishing the cup and about to pour another, she noticed he was watching her. Blinking her lustrous eyes, she quickly realized what was happening.

She then poured another cup and presented it to him with both hands, "Husband, have some tea."

Lin Xian glanced at the tea cup in her hands—it was the one she had just sipped from—and then looked away, unresponsive.

Uncertain of what he meant, Shen Chuwei asked, "Aren’t you thirsty, husband?"

Lin Xian’s lips barely parted, "Not thirsty."

"Oh." Shen Chuwei pulled the cup back to her lips and quickly finished the tea. After drinking two cups, she finally quenched her thirst.

Lin Xian remained silent.
