Story: The Phantom Wolf

We made our way over to play the carnival game.

It seemed like we had to knock down some stacked up metal cups to win a prize.

Since Renesmee wouldn't have the best control over her strength, it was up to me and Leah to play the game.

So I placed Renesmee down on her feet and we both paid the guy running the stall.

Each of us were given 3 balls and told to knock down our stacked up cups within 3 tries.

All of the cups had to be knocked over for us to win.

I threw my first ball perfectly after taking a moment to control my own strength. It ended up knocking down my stack on my first try. But when I looked to my left, I saw Leah already being handed the wolf plushie that Ren had wanted.

She took advantage of the time I used to collect myself!

"Thank you Leah!" Renesmee smiled brightly at my smirking sister.

"You're welcome kid." She said, while giving me a smug look.

Picking up my other two balls I had been given, I tossed them towards the two other stacks of metal cups that were further down the stall, and toppled both of them over at once.

Leah raised her eyebrow at me, clearly unimpressed by my display.

I saw the staff member approach me from the corner of my eye, so I tore my gaze off of my annoying older sister and faced him instead. He flinched when I looked at him with my cold stare. Good to know I can still have that affect on people.

"What... prizes would you like... ma'am?" He stuttered out nervously.

Glancing over at the plushies, I gestured towards the three panda plushies in the corner.

One of them was sticking its tongue out and was in a rolled up position, the second one was standing up holding bamboo in its two front paws, and the other one was sitting down while hugging a red heart.

Bree likes pandas, so I'll get those for her.

"I'll take those three thanks." I answered rather coldly.

He immediately retrieved them and hastily handed them over to me. I placed the plushies into my rucksack and we moved away from the game stall to allow others to play.

As we walked, Renesmee excitedly asked while holding her new wolf toy, "Can we go and win more stuff?"

"I don't see why not. As long as Pearl's not gonna fumble that is." Leah casually replied.

'Okay, it's on. Challenge accepted Leah. By the end of the day, I will have won more stuff than you.'

"I did not fumble, Leah. And sure Ren. Let's go and find more games to play." I said, Renesmee grabbed my hand and nodded frantically. Her head turned to look at a few other games, and before I knew it, she had started dragging me towards one.

Pearl and Leah spent the next 50 minutes trying to one up each other and win more prizes than their counter part.

Renesmee was able to join in on a few games, but she mostly just sat on the sidelines and watched the two sisters compete with each other.

She was quite happy to do so, as with each game the sisters played, the more prizes they won, and each time, without fail, all of their new prizes would be given to the little hybrid.

By the time Jacob and Seth found the girls, Renesmee was surrounded by a massive pile of different prizes, and she was holding onto the wolf plushie that Leah had won for her at the beginning of the competition.

Pearl and Leah were playing a ring toss game a couple of metres away, and only briefly acknowledged the two boys when they made an appearance.

The boys joined the giddy little hybrid to watch the other two play the challenging game. It was fairly quiet in the area that they were in. Hardly any humans around, aside from the staff members on the surrounding stalls.

Pearl took advantage of this fact, and as soon as she was certain that no humans were watching, she used her gift to disappear and she sped around the stall, placing all of her red rings around the winner bottles, then reappeared back in her original position.

All three of the shifters had seen her do it, and were staring at her with shocked expressions. Pearl just smirked at them and signalled to the staff member on the stall that she had won.

To say that the guy was flabbergasted would be an understatement.

He had never seen anyone win this game before, so to get someone able to land all of their rings on multiple different winning bottles, was unheard of.

Much to Leah's surprise and annoyance, the guy didn't question Pearl, he praised her exponentially and handed her the grand prize from the stall.

Seeing the humongous toy, Renesmee discarded her wolf plushie in the pile of prizes and rushed towards Pearl with a blinding smile on her face.

"Here you go Ren." Pearl said, as she handed Simba from the Lion King over to Renesmee.

As Renesmee hugged the giant Simba, she beamed at Pearl and exclaimed loudly, "Thank you Auntie!"

Pearl's heart melted right then and there at the kids words.

Renesmee ran back to Seth and Jacob to show off her new toy, while Pearl smiled like an idiot at her retreating form. Her smile was wiped off her face when she got hit by a bunch of blue rings from the game.

Leah had tossed her remaining rings at Pearl's head. Then grumbled "cheater" under her breath.

"It's not cheating if you don't get caught. It's only a strategy." Pearl remarked childishly while she smirked at her older sister. "By the way, I believe this makes me the winner. I won more prizes after all." She added in a smug tone.

Leah rolled her eyes silently at Pearl, and the two girls left the stall to join the others.

After depositing the many prizes into the car and eating the lunch that Esme had packed them, the group went back to the many rides in the park to continue their fun. Any and all previous awkwardness had dissipated, and the group was now very much enjoying their time together.

Renesmee became entranced by the bumper cars and begged everyone to join in. Since she was a child and still rather small in size, she had to ride with one of the others in the group. Since all of the bumper cars had two seats, she would need to be placed into a pair in order to participate.

Jacob really wanted Renesmee to double up with him, but he was quickly rejected by the little hybrid, as Ren asked Pearl in front of everyone to 'help her destroy Jakey!'

The larger hybrid very much enjoyed the look on Jake's face as she accepted Renesmee's request and teamed up with her.

The paired hybrids then spent the entire game bullying Jacob's car, and occasionally bumping into Seth and Leah's car as well.

Throughout the duration of the game, Renesmee's giggles and laughter filled the area.

Because of how much Ren enjoyed the bumper cars, the group continued to use the ride after their first try. It was quiet and hardly any queue for the ride, so the group of supernaturals were able to go again and again consistently, until the little hybrid's heart was content.

They did eventually switch up the teams, and Jacob got his team up with his imprint.

During one of the rounds, Leah and Pearl continuously attacked each other with their cars, trying to pin the other into a wall.

While Jacob and Renesmee, went after an unsuspecting Seth, who had been distracted by his older sisters antics.

By the time Renesmee finally got tired of bumper cars, she was completely exhausted from all of the excitement, and the Amusement park announced that they were closing. So the mainly exhausted group, made their way back to their car in the car park.

Since Pearl was a vampire, and, newly improved as well, she wasn't very tired. Which left her to carry the very sleepy Renesmee, while Jacob and Seth were practically dead on their feet, being dragged along by a tired and grumpy Leah.

Once they reached Leah's car, Pearl gently placed the now sleeping Renesmee into her car seat and buckled her up, while Leah practically threw Jacob and Seth into their own seats.

As soon as the boys placed their seatbelts on, the two boys fell into dreamland amongst some of the many prizes that they hadn't been able to fit into the trunk of the car.

Pearl and Leah got into their respective seats and Leah started the long drive home.

After Pearl sent both Edward and Carlisle a text to say that they were on their way back home, she placed her phone into her pocket.

Aside from Jacob and Seth's light snores, the car was mostly silent.

It wasn't until Leah spoke up in a soft quiet voice around 10 minutes later, that the silence was broken.

"I had fun today." Leah said softly.

"Me too." Pearl genuinely agreed while smiling.

A second later, Leah continued, "How have you been lately?" She asked gently, not pushing for answers, just, opening the door for a polite conversation.

Pearl hummed in response at first, but then replied after taking a moment to collect herself. "It's been good."

"The... vampires, treat you well?" Leah hesitantly questioned.

Pearl turned to her, and searched for any bad intentions or accusations. Finding none, she responded honestly. "They're family. They treat me how I treat them. With respect... and love."

Leah smiled sadly. "That's good. You sound happy with them."

"I am." Pearl confirmed.

Leah nodded her head and fell silent.

The two girls sat awake in the car for a while longer, not saying anything. They listened to the soft snores coming from the backseats, and the sound of the light wind hitting the car and brushing through the trees, as Leah drove.

The silence was eventually broken again, but by Pearl this time, when she delicately inquired as to how Leah was doing.

Leah was taken aback by the question at first, and took a few minutes to reply. After a bit, she said, "It's been good. Leaving Sam's pack was the best decision I've ever made. I'm a lot happier now."

Pearl smiled and teased playfully. "I guess all that's left for you to do is to finally imprint on someone."

Leah turned to Pearl and smirked. "I'll meet them eventually. And when I do, I'm not gonna take almost 4 months to ask them out."

Pearl's face turned bright red from embarrassment at being called out for her lack of action.

Leah started snickering, and sarcastically commented, "I thought vampires couldn't blush?"

Pushing down her flustered state, the hybrid responded in a whiny voice. "You know I'm part shifter. I'm not exactly immune to blushing."

Leah grinned at her, eyes glittering with amusement. "So..." Leah prompted.

"So what?" Pearl asked, confused about what she wanted to hear.

Leah huffed, then replied light heartedly, but also a tad bit serious. "So, when are you gonna ask her out?"

Pearl squeaked in surprise and her face turned an even darker shade of red.

Leah laughed quietly at her sister's state, before she regained her composure and continued. "I've seen the way you look at her."

Pearl tried to interrupt, but the look Leah gave her made her keep her mouth shut.

"And I've seen the way she looks at you." Leah's tone was completely serious now, lacking all previous playfulness and teasing. "So what's holding you back?" She asked.

The hybrid hesitated, taking in Leah's expression. Then Pearl turned around to check that everyone in the backseat was still asleep. Once she confirmed that they were, Pearl very quietly whispered a response to Leah's question, "I'm scared."
