Story: The Phantom Wolf

Some time had passed, and while the majority of the family remained still, and focused all of their attention on the tree line.

A few others directed their focus elsewhere to distract themselves.

Esme and Alice cleaned up the broken glass shards that had been scattered across the floor after Bree had broken through the window.

Emmet speedily disposed of the two deer corpses, then went back to watching the darkness.

The sounds they could hear that was coming from the fight, had diminished slightly, but it was still present.

Edward heard Carlisle silently theorise that the fight must be slowly moving further away. And that Pearl could be attempting to run and out manoeuvre them now that she's alone.

Then, it falls silent to the vampire coven's ears. The fight had either stopped, or had gotten to far away for them to hear it. No one was quite sure which one they should be hoping for.

Suddenly, the silence was pierced by Bree's painful scream. The young vampire collapsed in Rosalie's arms, almost falling to the floor if Rose hadn't been holding her.

Carlisle immediately rushed over to Bree and checked her for injuries. Bree began dry sobbing hysterically, still crying out in pain. Not finding any obvious physical injuries, Carlisle asked Bree sternly, "Tell me where it hurts."

Between sobs, Bree managed to choke out. "My back!"

Rosalie speedily lifted Bree's hoodie and T-shirt, exposing the young vampires back to Carlisle. But there was no injury, her back was unharmed.

Confusion filled Carlisle's mind. It was obvious that Bree was in pain, but she had no injuries. How could he help her? What could he do?

Jacob and Jasper, were the first to understand what was taking place.

"It's the imprint bond!" They cried out in panic.

Edward, hearing their thoughts, finished what they were gonna say. "Bree's feeling what Pearl is feeling."

Everyone in the room froze and fell silent. Bree's cries was all that could be heard. It didn't need to be said out loud. They all understood the implication.

Pearl was hurt, and Bree was feeling it.

Jasper moved over to Bree and took her from Rosalie's arms. He started to use his gift, in hopes of numbing the pain for her.

Emmet was the first to speak after Jasper had moved. "Pearl got hurt before! After the wedding! This didn't happen then!" He exclaimed loudly, trying to be hopeful and deny the possibility of Bree feeling Pearl's injuries.

"That's because they weren't as close back then. These last few weeks, they've grown a lot closer. Their strengthened relationship, fed the bond. They're more in tune with one another." Jasper explained.

"Mutt! What does this mean?! Is my sister alright or not?!" Emmet shouted at Jacob.

Before Jacob had a chance to answer, he was cut off by Bree who let out another ear piercing scream and clutched her stomach in agony.

Bella started shouting and begged someone to do something. Bree had stood by her side these last few weeks, and Pearl had become a good friend, no matter her stance on the situation. Hearing Bree's cries was breaking the human apart.

At the human's shouts, the room descended into chaos.

Many raised voices sounded out. Arguments took place regarding what to do.

Emmet was desperate to run out of the house to find Pearl, but Alice and Edward held him back.

Alice got a vision after Emmet decided to leave, and it revealed to her that if Emmet left now, he would be intercepted by another wolf and get hurt, or worse, killed.

No one could come up with a solution that got everyone to safety.

Even Jacob was trying to come up with something to help.

As soon as Bree let out her third loud scream of pain. Jacob saw a flash of white from the corner of his eye. Turning to the window, he saw Leah's back end disappearing into the trees.

"Leah!" Jacob called out to his beta. But she did not turn around.

Looking down to the garden, Jacob saw Seth start to leave into the trees as well to follow his sister. Overcome with fear and emotion, Jacob let out his alpha voice and commanded Seth to stop.

Having no choice, the young wolf complied and froze in place.

Those who had seen the interaction, stared off into the distance after the female shifter. Hoping that she would make it to Pearl in time.
