Story: The Phantom Wolf
Knocking Bree aside, the silver coloured wolf latched their jaws around the side of Sam's head, and bit down hard.
Sam desperately tried to free himself from the silver wolf's locked jaws, but the hold was firm and unwavering.
Seeing his alpha in trouble, Paul's wolf ran at the silver shifter's side to throw them off of Sam. But he too, got intercepted. This time, by a mass of white and brown fur.
"Pearl!" Emmet shouted out in relief as soon as he saw the silver shifter.
'Leah!' Seth and Jacob shouted through the pack link in surprise and happiness.
The coven and the Black pack were filled with instantaneous relief upon seeing the presumed dead she-wolves very much alive.
Carlisle quickly scanned over the two with his eyes and noted their various injuries.
Leah's wolf had a large gash stretching across her entire left side.
Going from her shoulder blade down to her hind leg.
The white and brown wolf also had a multitude of small injuries scattered across her body. But overall, Leah seemed fairly okay.
Pearl's wolf however, was in a much worse condition.
Deep claw marks were protruding into Pearl's back.
Thick red blood coated her underbelly, and there was a large laceration on her neck.
Whilst scanning over the hybrid, Carlisle noticed how the sound of her heartbeat had changed.
Her heart, has always beat at a slower pace, but now, it was barely beating at all.
It was so slow in fact, that if he hadn't been focusing all his attention on evaluating her, he might have missed it entirely.
It became abundantly clear to Carlisle in that moment, that Pearl was running on pure adrenaline, and that she would need emergency medical care from him as soon as possible.
During Carlisle's evaluation of the two girl's, Leah had pinned Paul to the ground and had forced him to submit.
Seth was growling at the rest of Sam's pack, alongside Jacob.
Warning them not to interfere. Jacob had also moved in front of Bree and had taken a protective stance, ready to shield the imprint if necessary.
Meanwhile, Pearl was biting down on Sam's skull.
Sam was trying to break free from her grip by doing anything he could.
He flailed his body around, trying to free himself, but all his efforts were in vain.
Pearl got on her hind legs and pushed her front paws down on Sam's back.
Applying a lot of force onto his body, she halted his escape attempts and forced him to remain somewhat still, as she continued to bite down on his head.
Her instincts having taken over, she was attempting to shatter his skull.
He had tried to kill her imprint. Every bone in Pearl's body was cheering for her to kill him. As she heard a crack, followed by a loud crunch. Whimpers and whines erupted from not only Sam's pack, but from Sam himself as well.
Hearing the cries of pain, Pearl's consciousness pushed itself back to the front of her mind, and she made a split second decision, which ultimately spared Sam's life.
Using her front paws, which were previously pushing down on his body, she suddenly applied force from the side instead and pushed him away from her.
Loosening her grip on his skull meant that Sam was sent flying into a tree.
But right before Sam's head left her jaws, Pearl clamped back down on some fur with her red stained teeth.
She heard the tare of his skin, as his body flew away from her.
Sam lay under the tree he had crashed into for a minute, trying to catch his breath and come to terms with the splitting pain that was now erupting from his head. Moving his eyes, he spotted Pearl's silver wolf and saw the blood running down her muzzle. His blood.
Watching Sam with a dangerous look, Pearl spat out what she had torn off of the black wolf's body.
Everyone sucked in a breath, upon seeing what it was.
Sam's breath hitched in his throat as he stared at his own ear, that was now laying on the ground by Pearl's paws. It was covered in his blood and pretty torn up. But it was clear. The eyes of his pack only confirmed it in his mind, once he saw his own battered body through their eyes.
His left ear, had indeed, been torn off.
Leah let Paul up and moved to stand on Pearl's right side. Seth moved to Pearl's left. The three Clearwater shifters growled at the Uley pack threateningly.
Sam hesitantly rose to his feet. Once he did, Pearl let out a loud bark and Sam instantly lowered his head in submission, tail between his legs.
Pearl took a step forwards and Sam responded with a whimper and a step back. Pearl moved her head slightly, gesturing towards the reservation, then growled at him lowly.
Sam immediately understood the order and darted into the trees, back towards the res. The rest of his pack, quickly followed suit.
As the Uley pack ran out of the Cullen's territory, a piercing howl sounded from the Cullen house. It was soon joined by three others. The sound was loud and intense. And the message it carried, was crystal clear.
The land they were on, didn't belong to them. The Uley pack, was trespassing. And if they were caught doing it again, they wouldn't leave with their lives.
The four shifters lowered their heads after finishing their howl. Pearl turned her body to face her vampire family, and more importantly, her imprint.
The happiness and relief that was on everyone's faces was as clear as day. Jacob moved out of his protective stance and stepped aside, so that Pearl could see Bree clearly.
Making eye contact with her imprint, Pearl could see the utter shock and gratitude that adorned her face.
Taking a couple of steps towards Bree, Pearl's pain and fatigue finally caught up with her.
The hybrid collapsed to the ground, her head landing in Bree's lap.
Before Pearl lost consciousness, she wagged her tail slightly and she gave Bree a small lick on the hand.
'I kept my promise.' Pearl said in her mind, before darkness took over her vision.
