Story: The Phantom Wolf
After the whole thing with Jacob, we all went back inside the house. Well, everyone other than Leah and Seth, who decided that they wanted to go and see Sue instead.
Thinking of Sue as my 'mum' feels wrong. She abandoned me. She didn't want a screwed up daughter, so it just feels right to no longer class her as my mother.
Although, regarding the situation with my bio siblings, I'll have to have a conversation with them at some point.
Leah did save my life after all...
I guess I do kind of owe them a conversation.
I was broken from my thoughts when I felt my arm being nudged. Looking to my left, I saw Jasper staring at me. He had a look of concern on his face.
'Oh, he must've been reading my emotions.' I gave him a small smile and hoped that he wouldn't press for information. He usually doesn't, so I should be good.
Like I thought, Jasper didn't do anything else.
He just sighed and turned his attention back to the centre of the room.
Following his gaze, I laid my eyes on the couple, holding their daughter.
Rosalie and Bree were sitting on the couch near Edward and Bella, watching the baby interact with its parents.
Bree hasn't spoken to me since I caught Seth and stopped him from hitting that tree. I wonder why? Maybe it's because she's so engrossed with the baby. I mean, she did fight for them the whole time Bella was pregnant. I guess it makes sense that she wants to be near them.
I fixed my eyes on little Renesmee and examined her from a distance.
I've never been that fond of babies. Their constant crying and screaming can become quite annoying.
I probably feel that way because of how much I enjoy silence.
Any sounds that interrupts that, is just irritating to me, and babies are no exception.
But, I must admit, little Renesmee doesn't seem that bad. She hasn't cried yet, so that's a plus. And, I guess, she's kinda cute. I'm gonna attribute that to her vampire side though. Normal babies are fairly ugly, or at least, I don't see their beauty, their parents do, but I don't.
"Do you want to hold her, Pearl?" Edward suddenly asked me.
Panic! Panic! Panic! I don't know how to hold a baby! No way! I'll probably end up dropping her! And I don't wanna die today!
"Err... no thanks. I'm good." I muttered quietly, in as calm of a voice I could muster.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Jasper smirking at me.
'Fuck you, you Texan empath! Fucking emotion stalker!'
"She's not gonna hurt you Pearl. And I'm pretty sure you could win against a baby in a fight, right?" Jasper remarked in a teasing manner.
I growled at the empath and scowled at him. I really wanted to yell some profanity's at the Texan, but I'm pretty positive that Bella would kill me if I corrupted her child's innocence this early on in her life.
Growling was probably the wrong move, cause the baby turned their head to look at me from Edward's arms. She then reached her little hand up to Edward's cheek and he froze for a moment, then came towards me while carrying her.
'Woah woah woah. What's he doing?'
"She wants you to hold her." Edward said. It looked like he was trying to hold back a smirk while talking.
I just inquired simply. "Why?"
"She's an infant Pearl. She doesn't have an in depth reason as to why she wants you to hold her." Rosalie said in the form of a snarky comment.
I really don't want to hold her. What if I drop her? Or she starts crying? I'm part wolf, she shouldn't like me! Why on earth would she want me to hold her?!
I must've stayed motionless for too long, because Bella sped over to me and started moving my hands into a cradling position, then Edward placed the freaking baby into my arms! What the hell man?!
As soon as I felt Renesmee in my hold, I tensed up. I was petrified that I'd do something wrong and screw something up.
Almost as soon as I felt the overwhelming fear, it was replaced by a wave of calm. Jasper was messing with my emotions again.
I let out a quiet growl aimed towards Jasper, but my attention quickly shifted back to the kid when I heard her giggle. Looking down at the girl, the child was looking directly at me while smiling widely.
Seeing her up close, I could see features from both Edward and Bella on her face.
"Well, she's definitely your kid. Certainly has some features in common with the both of you.
" I said. Not really knowing what else to say.
I decided that it would be best to go quiet and just stare at the baby I was holding. That way nothing could go wrong, right?
The kid then reached her hand up towards my face, on instinct, I moved my head back to avoid her touch. And she pouted at me!
'She's pouting?! The baby is pouting at me?! Does she have a consciousness?! Is she self aware?! Oh fuck, this just got a lot more dangerous! Fuck! Edward take your kid back!' I screamed internally, purposely revealing my mind to the mind reader to showcase my absolute panic.
Another wave of calm washed over me and I heard Jasper chuckle. He then said in a jokey tone, "You'll run into a forest with a bunch of bloodthirsty wolves while oozing with confidence, but a baby reaching up to touch you is terrifying?"
"Oh come on man. I've never held a baby before." I whined. "Nor have I ever really interacted with one, aside from my little brother when he was born. But I was two at the time, so it hardly counts."
Multiple people started chuckling and the baby started glaring at me. A baby... is glaring at me?!
I am having a crisis, and everyone is too busy laughing, to help me!
"Here." Bella says in between her chuckles.
I thought she was gonna take her daughter back, but no, she just adjusted the kid in my hold so that the little thing could touch my face! Traitor!
As soon as Renesmee touched my face, a bunch of images flooded into my brain. They were all jumbled up, but it seemed like they were memories of some sort.
When it stopped, I quickly asked, "What the hell was that?!"
"Language!" I heard Esme scold me from somewhere in the house.
Edward replied to me, still slightly snickering. "It's her gift."
"Her gift?" I questioned quietly, calming myself down.
Rosalie spoke up from the couch where she and Bree were sat. "She's able to show us her memories and thoughts by touching our faces." She said bluntly.
"... okay then." I mumbled while looking at the now grinning kid. The feeling of memories and images plowing into my brain was quite shocking, and it felt weird. It wasn't a bad feeling, but it certainly took me by surprise.
"Do you want to know her name?" Bella suddenly asked me.
'Her name? Does she mean the kids full name?'
"Her names Renesmee, right? After your respective mothers?" I queried.
"That's right." Bella confirmed. "But you haven't heard her full name yet." She said.
"Okay? What is it?" I may as well indulge them. Bella looks fairly excited, so she must be really happy with their decision.
Edward was the one to answer me. "Pearl. Meet our daughter. Renesmee Carlie Pearl Cullen." He stated proudly.
I paused, taking a moment to absorb what he said. Then in a confused tone, I asked, "I think you made a mistake. You said my name twice?"
"No mistake." Bella assured me.
"But... that would mean..." I looked back down to the child in my arms who was happily grinning up at me.
"We named her after you." Bella said softly. "You risked your life to save us. It felt right to give her your name."
"Not to mention everything you did to help me during Bella's pregnancy." Edward added in.
'They named her after me? I'm hardly anything special. Besides, Rosalie and Bree did way more than I did when Bella was pregnant. Why would they use my name for their daughter's middle name?'
Bella must've seen my confusion because she elaborated on her decision. "You may not have done much directly, but you were a big help to both of us. And I hope that when Renesmee grows up, she'll be just as strong and as caring as you."
'Out of everyone here, I'm hardly the best role model for the kid. I'm honoured they thought to do this, but still...'
"Pearl." Edward's voice got my attention.
I looked up and made eye contact with him as he continued talking.
"We chose to use your name as Renesmee's middle name because of how much you sacrificed to keep her, and the rest of us, safe.
For a couple of days, we believed you to be dead when you didn't return.
We thought we lost a member of our family.
So we are so glad that you are back with us, and that you're alive and well.
We may not say it very often, but you mean a great deal to us, and to me.
You're my little sister, Pearl. Emmet may claim you more vocally than anyone else, but I still consider you as such.
And aside from Carlisle and Esme who see you as their daughter, everyone else sees you the same way as I do.
You're family, and while you may not think it, you will be an excellent role model for my daughter.
" He spoke confidently with a calm undertone.
His voice was sincere and held nothing but the truth.
'This is really what they think of me? They really believe that?'
Edward nodded his head at me as he heard my internal doubts. Usually I'd be irritated by his mind probing but, I guess I don't care right now.
I felt a tear fall from my left eye and slide down my face as I took in Edward's words. He's my brother. Just like Emmet is. And Jasper too. I have three older sisters in Rosalie, Alice and Bella. I have an amazing imprint to call my best friend. And now, I guess I have a niece too.
I smiled softly at the child in my arms as I thought, 'I'm not sure how well I'll do at the whole 'Aunt' thing, but I'll do my best.'
Bella and Edward smiled at each other and kissed. Having an intimate moment while I held their daughter. I could still see Jasper lightly smirking at me from the corner of my eye, but he also look very happy and relaxed.
After a few minutes, the shock and warmth of what Edward said wore off, and I was reminded that I was still holding a BABY without any guidance or direction. What was I supposed to do with her?!
'Okay, okay. Enough bonding and sentimental stuff. Stop kissing and take your kid back Edward.'
I saw Edward glance at me as he and Bella finished kissing. He gave me a sly smirk then grabbed Bella by the waist and initiated another kiss with her, which she happily leaned into. All while ignoring my silent plea for help.
'Jerk!'
