Story: The Phantom Wolf
Seth, Quil and Jared were sat down on one of the couches. They were silent, clearly waiting for either me to speak or for Sam to. Paul and Embry were spread out in the room, and they were both eating muffins.
'Where did they get those?' I thought. 'No matter. Let's just finish this quickly. The sooner I'm done here, the sooner I can return to Bree and the Cullens.'
Sam and Emily followed me inside. Emily was on the phone, so I guess this whole thing wasn't very important to her. Sam was staring at me though. He seemed on edge, nervous perhaps.
"Where have you been?" The alpha eventually asked.
"Gone" I quickly responded. 'I don't owe you answers, so I'm not gonna make this easy for you if you want them.'
"Stop messing around Pearl. Do you know how worried everyone has been? How long we've been searching for you?" Sam grit through his teeth, clearly trying to remain calm.
"Oh? Worried? All of you? Hah! Yeah right." I laughed at him. "The only people who should have been worried was Seth, Leah and mum. But then again, they were the ones who told me to leave. So really, none of you had any right to be worried." I said bitterly.
"That's not true! I-" Seth quickly interjected, I cut him off.
"Shut up Seth!" I shouted at him, pissed. 'Billy was the one who filed that report, and even then, that was only because it was an obligation for him to do, as a member of the council. My family didn't care. They still don't.'
"Hey!" Sam bellowed. "Calm down" He ordered.
"Tsk... I left when Leah told me to get lost. And if I remember correctly, you didn't exactly do anything, Seth... You just followed Leah. So it's pretty obvious that you agreed with her." I countered.
"... I... didn't... I just..." Seth said slowly, tears rolling down his cheeks.
'Now he's crying. Great. He's gonna make me feel bad.
This doesn't matter. None of this does. He left.
Just like the rest of them did. Dad died, and they disappeared.
They left me alone. I don't give a damn what happened.
All this supernatural bullshit. If I meant anything to them, they wouldn't have left me behind.
They wouldn't have left me alone, to deal with dad's death.
Its clear, that I meant nothing to them.
They can't pretend, that I mean something to them now.
I'm not stupid. Even if they think I am. ' I ranted in my head.
It was silent for a bit, no one quite knew what to say. In that silence everyone looked me over with their eyes, and, it wasn't long before someone noticed my strange features.
"... Why are your eyes golden?" Jared hesitantly asked.
"I'm a vampire" I replied bluntly. Everyone sucked in a breath and tensed up when I answered. Paul even dropped what remained of his muffin on the floor, and turned his full attention to me.
"... How could you be-" Quil asked warily.
"A vampire?" I interrupted. 'No point in hiding it.'
The group nodded their heads.
"When I ran away, I took my bike with me.
I rode it out of Forks and took the road that headed towards Seattle.
I was gonna sleep overnight somewhere in the city, then head north in the morning.
" I paused, taking a breath. They were all staring at me intently.
Whether that was because I was talking and telling them what happened, or because they had just discovered I was their mortal enemy, I don't know.
"But, I never made it to Seattle." I said grimly.
Seth gasped and asked quietly, "What happened?"
I glanced over at him, before addressing the rest of the pack and continuing, "I was attacked by a Cold One. A vampire."
The boys started growling, clearly aggravated by the revelation.
"How far away from the res were you?" Sam inquired diplomatically.
"Was it near our borders?!" Embry called out.
"What leech attacked you?!" Paul yelled over the others.
"I don't know how far away I was. Maybe, half way to Seattle. In terms of who attacked me. I was informed by Edward Cullen later on, that she went by the name of Victoria." I answered.
"That red-headed bitch!" Paul yelled.
"What happened?" Emily asked shakily.
'Honestly, forgot she was there.' I thought, looking over my shoulder at my cousin.
"Tsk. Said something about me being useful to her.
Then she bit me on my neck." I growled quietly, unable to keep it down.
"Her biting me, must have awakened my shifter DNA, cause when she destroyed my motorcycle in front of me, I became so pissed off that I ended up shifting for the first time. "
"Wait. She bit you, and then you shifted?" Sam asked, visibly confused.
"That's what I said." I replied in a snarky tone. "Anyway, I had no control over myself. And actually, was only recently able to recall what happened during my first shift. When I became a wolf for the first time, I caught Victoria off guard, and was able to rip her to shreds."
"Wait, you did?!" Embry asked, shocked.
I nodded my head in confirmation.
"But, if you destroyed her, how did she come back?" Paul shouted in frustration.
I remained silent. 'What am I supposed to say? Even I don't know how she was still alive. I literally decapitated her. Most people don't survive a decapitation.' I thought, somewhat sarcastically.
"... You... didn't burn her, did you?" Sam asked quietly, putting the pieces together.
Raising my eyebrow, I replied "No. I didn't. As I said, I didn't have control over myself. When I ripped her apart I took off into the trees afterwards. All I remember after that, was pain. I under went the change into a vampire over the next three days."
"You need to set fire to a vampire corpse in order to stop it from reviving itself." Sam revealed.
'Well, I guess that explains it then.' I determined.
"So... you're both a Cold One and a shifter?" Quil asked, unsure.
"Yes. Me and the Cullens refer to myself as a hybrid." I replied.
The boys looked at each other warily.
"And why exactly are you so close to the Cullens?" Jared inquired.
"I stayed with them for a period of time. My imprint does live with them, after all." I quickly answered, brushing off the topic. 'It's none of their business.'
"Now then, on to the main problem at hand." I said, turning to Sam. "You're my so called alpha right?"
"I am your alpha Pearl. You are a part of my pack." He answered firmly.
"Oh, yeah. That's great." I sarcastically remarked. "Well you had your fun ordering me around. Now remove me." I stated.
"Excuse me?" Sam said.
"Remove me from your pack. I'm a lone Wolf.
I don't need you. I don't need anyone." I said seriously.
'If I have to fight him to get what I want, then I will.
I'm not his dog. I don't belong to anyone.
And don't need to follow his orders. The only person I may possibly listen to, is my imprint. And that sure as hell ain't Sam.'
"I'm not doing that." Sam said. His voice holding authority.
"And why not?!" I asked loudly, in frustration.
"You're a part of the Quileute tribe, regardless of the fact that you are a vampire now. You are still a shifter. Which makes you my responsibility." He answered in a stern tone, leaving no room for arguments.
"You little-" I got interrupted by the front door of the house opening.
Standing in the door way, was my mother and sister, staring at me wide eyed.
'Oh Shit' I thought, mind going blank.
