Story: The Phantom Wolf
In his anger, Edward picked up a large rock and threw it into a tree at full force.
This caused the rock to slice throw the trunk, like a knife through butter.
The rock continued on its trajectory for a while longer, going through a couple more tree trunks before finally coming to a stop and landing on the ground.
Pearl stood to the side and watched as Edward unleashed his anger onto the nature that surrounded them.
After some time had passed, with many broken trees and shattered rocks laying on the ground in the area.
Edward finally uttered something coherent to Pearl, instead of just a multitude of different screams and shouts.
"What do you want? Here to yell at me too?" He asked exasperatedly.
"No" Pearl answered simply.
"Then what?!" Edward raised his voice in frustration.
Seeing that her words weren't going to get her anywhere, Pearl let down the shield that was hiding her mind from him. Allowing Edward to hear her thoughts instead of listen to the hybrids words.
'You have every right to be angry and upset. This pregnancy came as a huge shock, to not only you, but to everyone else as well. I for one, thought that it was impossible for vampires to procreate. So this situation is certainly something...' Pearl conveyed silently in her head, to the vampire.
Edward collapsed against a large rock and sat in silence. Listening to Pearl's inner monologue.
'You feel betrayed and angry, because of Bella's decision to keep it. And we can't blame you for that. But the way you are going about dealing with this situation, is wrong.'
Edward scoffed, then said bitterly, "And how do you think it should be dealt with."
Choosing to continue speaking in her mind, Pearl kept her mouth shut and her shield down.
'The way you first reacted was understandable.
But it was no doubt, hurtful to Bella. Then, you tried to force a termination onto her.
While yes, you view it as trying to protect her.
She certainly doesn't share that view. Bella saw your actions as an attack on her.
I know that wasn't your intention, but that is how she saw it.
.. and right now, the way your voicing your anger and frustration to her, is only solidifying her view of you. '
Edward's face held a guilty expression, but he was still unhappy and countered the hybrid. "She's leaving me. She's gonna die. That thing will kill her. How on earth am I supposed to be calm about this?!" He complained in frustration.
"You can't." Pearl spoke out loud, getting his attention.
He looked at her in surprise, then asked. "Then what am i supposed to do?"
Pearl sighed, and let her thoughts speak for her.
'I'm not saying this is all your fault. You have a part to play in it, yes.
It does take 2 to tango, after all. But right now, Bella's flying solo.
She's not acting like a partner or a wife.
It's true that it is her body. And it is ultimately her decision what happens to it.
But your opinion, should still be taken into consideration.
As the father of this creature, you have a right to voice what you think.
And your voice should be taken into account.
No matter if the two of you agree, or not. '
Edward relaxes slightly. Hearing Pearl's thoughts that are so understanding of his feelings, allows his mind to clear.
Which, in turn, calms down his emotions as well.
Feeling a little better, he asks defeatedly, "How could she make this decision without me?
I married her. I want her. I don't want that thing.
I need Bella in my life, or... it's just not worth living.
If this thing takes her away from me, how could she think I'd ever love it? "
"I'm not sure what she's thinking." Pearl replied. "None of us will, unless we talk to her." She states.
He scoffs. "Yeah, you already saw how that went." Edward mutters in an upset tone.
"You're right. That discussion didn't go the best. But that's because you didn't go into it with a level head.
Your hurt and anger, was on full display for everyone to see.
We both know how Rosalie feels about children.
Is it really that much of a surprise to you, how defensive she got with the things you were saying?
" Pearl asked calmly, her voice full of empathy.
Edward sighs sadly, then mumbles, "I guess not."
"Bella is your wife. This whole thing, is something you need to discuss with her. But this time... do it without the yelling." Said Pearl.
Edward nodded his head and got to his feet. He sped off back in the direction of the Cullen house. Pearl was following close behind him.
