Story: The Phantom Wolf
The next day, when Pearl and Bree returned from their first date, Alice and Rosalie immediately started hounding the two for details. Emmet and Jasper were slightly more respectful, but no one could deny that they were also curious.
While the imprinted pair had been gone, it had snowed in Forks, and the snow was currently continuing to fall. Taking advantage of the weather, Bella had taken Renesmee out to a snow covered field with Jacob in his wolf form.
Renesmee grabbed a snowflake and brought it over to her mother with a proud look on her face. "Look a snow flake." She exclaimed happily.
"It's beautiful. Why don't you get another one?" Bella suggested with a smile on her face.
As Renesmee ran off to catch another snowflake, Bella turned to Jacob's wolf. "Edward thinks that we'll find answers about Renesmee in Brazil. There are tribes there that might know something." She said.
Renesmee jumped up high into the air for a snowflake. As she did so, she was unaware that a blonde headed vegetarian vampire was watching her in shock.
Carlisle placed his phone back into his pocket, and answered the group's silent question. "Tanya convinced Irina to come and reconcile with us."
"Well, it looks like she changed her mind." Edward responded sadly.
"Seeing Jacob must have been too much for her." Esme replied empathetically.
Pearl then chimed in. "Okay, what's the deal with her? She hated me from the moment she met me, and I wasn't even the one who killed her boy toy. The guy wasn't even her mate for crying out loud!" The hybrid complained.
"Pearl. Laurent wasn't her mate, but she did love him. She can't help how she feels." Esme chastised the hybrid gently.
Pearl let out a sigh. "I still feel like she's being unreasonable mum."
"She's family. She'll come around." Carlisle exclaimed while smiling.
Pearl looked at him in disbelief, then conceded, "If you say so dad."
Renesmee then ran into the room and stopped in front of the older hybrid. "Aunt Pearl! Help me beat Uncle Emmet in Mario Kart please!" She excitedly asked with big round puppy dog eyes.
Pearl smirked. "Of course Ren!" She exclaimed happily, and then called out to Emmet. "Hear that bro! You're going down!"
"Bring it!" Emmet shouted back from the living room, in a challenging tone.
The two hybrid's instantly left the room and joined Emmet on the couch in front of the Tv. And started up a new Mario kart tournament.
After multiple rounds were played, Renesmee settled in with her father by the piano. And the coven gathered to listen to Edward play. Jacob was also there, he was standing between Bella and Pearl. With Pearl having her arms wrapped around Bree, who was leaning into her chest.
Since their first date, the imprinted pair had become a lot more touchy with each other. They were more comfortable displaying their affections for each other in front of others, as well as themselves.
The serenity in the room was thick, Edward's playing made everything feel so peaceful, but when Alice walked into the room she froze suddenly, and dropped the vase of flowers she was carrying onto the floor, this caused any and all sense of peace, to immediately vanish into thin air.
In an instant, Jasper was by his mate's side to steady her. The family watched on with worry, as Alice's vision commenced.
Once it ended, Jasper enquired gently, "What is it Alice?"
With fear in her eyes, Alice answered him quietly, "The Volturi. They're coming for us. Aro, Cauis, Marcus, the guard... and Irina."
Bella pulled Renesmee to her in a protective embrace. At the mention of the Volturi, Pearl tightened her hold on Bree and Bree leaned further into her mate. Remembering the time at the clearing when the pair first met.
"Why?" Carlisle asked confusedly.
Edward piped up and asked Bella and Jacob, "What did Irina see in the woods?"
Jacob quickly responded to the mind reader, his tone was full of worry and concern. "Ness was catching snowflakes."
A look of realisation crossed the mind reader's face. "Of course. Irina thinks Renesmee's an Immortal Child."
After seeing everyone's downcast expressions, Bree cautiously asked, "What's that?"
Carlisle brought out an old book from his study to explain it to them.
"The Immortal Children were very beautiful.
To be near them was to love them. But their development was frozen at the age they were turned.
They couldn't be taught or restrained. Rumours spread about the destruction that one of these children could cause.
Countless humans could end up slaughtered from a single tantrum.
The Volturi were forced to intervene. The Children weren't able to safeguard our secret, so they had to be destroyed.
Along with their creators... The Denali's mother, paid the highest price for making one. " He said solemnly.
'The Denali's mother made an Immortal Child.' Pearl thought, taking in the new information, feeling disbelief and a slight amount of disappointment.
"But Renesmee was born, she wasn't bitten. She's nothing like those children. She grows every single day." Bella argued worriedly.
"So can't you just explain that to the Volturi?" Jacob questioned.
"They're coming to kill us, not to talk." Jasper responded.
"So we fight." Jacob replied with determination. He wasn't going to loose his imprint.
"Their offensive weapons are too powerful. No one can stand against them." Jasper argued.
"Then shouldn't we hide? Run away?" Bree spoke up from within Pearl's arms.
Edward shook his head sadly. "They know us. Demitri would find us with ease." As he spoke, a soft thought entered his mind. It pained him to realise it, but he knew that it had to be said. "You could run though." He directed his words to Bree and Pearl.
"What?" Pearl asked, completely taken aback.
Carlisle reached the same conclusion that his son did, and explained to the girls.
"They don't know you exist. You hid from them last time they came here.
They have no knowledge of you. And given your gift Pearl, you'd be able to hide both your scent, and Bree's from the Volturi. The two of you would have a future."
Pearl and Bree stood in shock as they stared at Carlisle, taking in his words. Both of them couldn't believe that he was actually suggesting that they leave and abandon the coven.
Alice spoke up with a sad smile after looking into the future. "They won't find you." She confirmed.
The room was filled with a heavy silence as all members of the Olympic Coven realised what this meant.
After some moments, the silence was drowned out by a loud deadly growl, emanating from Pearl.
"Not a fucking chance in hell. I love Bree, and I want her to have a future.
But I also love all of you too. So I sure as hell ain't gonna leave you guys to die.
" She said sternly, her voice full of determination and certainty.
"I agree." Bree spoke up in a soft, yet equally determined voice. "If we were to leave just to have a future, I guarantee that it wouldn't be the future that we'd want. We'll live together as a coven, or we'll die together as a coven. You aren't getting rid of us that fucking easily."
Pearl nodded in agreement, showcasing her support.
The surrounding family were touched by their decision and resolve.
For once, nobody scolded them for their use of language, despite Renesmee being in the room.
Everyone understood the dire circumstances, and with Pearl and Bree making their position to stay clear, the future of their family weighed heavily in the air.
Eventually, Edward spoke up, "Carlisle. You have friends all over the world."
Carlisle quickly responded, "I won't ask them to fight."
Edward cut in, "Not fight. Witness. If enough people knew the truth, maybe we could convince the Volturi to listen."
Carlisle looked unsure, it was still a big ask, and it would put a lot more people in danger. Esme gently grabbed onto his arm, causing him to turn to her. "We can ask this of our friends." She said softly. Slowly the patriarch of the family nodded, and the plan of action was set into motion.
As members of the coven started talking about who to contact first, and where they would need to go in order to locate some of the potential vampires to serve as witnesses.
Pearl looked over to the pixie and the Texan, and noted their expressions.
They looked more sad compared to the rest of the family, less hopeful.
The older hybrid narrowed her eyes at the pair. Her piercing gaze caught their attention, and Pearl subtly gestured for them to go to the next room over, so that they could talk.
