Story: The Phantom Wolf
Over the next few weeks, the family dynamic evened out, and all of the worry for Renesmee was put on the back burner.
Renesmee is now the size of a 3 year old toddler, and has become just as excitable as a regular toddler.
So when Jacob let it slip that Pearl's birthday was coming up, Renesmee made it her personal mission to make the birthday party amazing.
Of course Auntie Alice jumped at the opportunity to plan a party, and assisted the little hybrid with everything that was needed.
To say that Alice wasn't a bit miffed by the fact that Pearl hadn't informed anyone of her upcoming birthday, was an understatement. The pixie was beyond livid, as it only left her two days to plan a sufficient party for the hybrid.
The rest of the family was also quite surprised to hear how close Pearl's birthday was, and they were fairly confused why the hybrid had failed to mention it.
That confusion was quickly cleared up after Bree asked Pearl a subtle question about it, and Pearl didn't have a clue what her imprint was talking about.
It turned out that Pearl had completely forgotten about her birthday, as she hadn't been paying any attention to the dates and was rather distracted by everything that had been happening previously.
This lead to Alice deciding that they would plan a surprise birthday party for Pearl.
The vampires all quickly got to work and secured presents for the hybrid. They also obtained decorations for the house, all while keeping their actions and intentions, hidden from the clueless Pearl.
On the day of Pearl's birthday, different roles were assigned to each coven member.
Emmet and Bree were tasked with keeping Pearl out of the house, so that the party could be set up.
Rosalie, Esme and Carlisle were in charge of the food, more specifically, the cake.
Jasper had to go and pick up Pearl's main and final present as it had just arrived in the next city over.
This, left Edward, Bella, Alice and Renesmee in charge of all the decorating.
Of course when it came to all of the decorations allocated locations, Alice was being her bossy self. But it seemed that her personality had rubbed off on little Renesmee, as the tiny hybrid was soon telling her father off for putting some bunting in the wrong place.
'Oh god, there's two of them.' Edward sweat dropped, once he realised that his pixie sister now had a double.
Emmet and Bree took Pearl out of the house early that morning, under the guise of needing to hunt. It didn't take Pearl long to figure out that they just wanted her out of the house.
Since Emmet lacked a good poker face, the hybrid was able to read him like a book. But instead of drawing attention to it, Pearl decided to ignore why they wanted her out of the house for now, and chose to just figure it out later.
When the three of them had finished hunting, Pearl climbed to the top of a tall tree and gazed at the cliff side, and everything down below. The view was quite appealing and comforting to the hybrid, so she thought it best to stay up there for a while.
Emmet and Bree were perfectly happy with Pearl's decision as it meant that they didn't have to come up with some sort of lie to keep Pearl outside.
But after some time had passed, the two vampires grew rather bored and became consequently restless. So they started playing small games between themselves, including truth or dare. Pearl listened to a few rounds and then chose to join in.
The three supernaturals continued their game for a few hours, until Emmet's phone alerted them to a new message. Upon reading it, the big vampire jumped up excitedly and exclaimed that it was time to go back home.
Bree quickly agreed, sharing his excitement without receiving any details. So Pearl became more suspicious that they were all planning something, and decided to get some answers.
"What are you two so excited about?" The hybrid questioned. Crossing her arms across her chest and raising her eyebrow.
"Umm, nothing." Emmet responded nervously.
Bree's tone wasn't much better when she spoke. "Yeah, it's nothing. Now, come on, let's go home!" She rushed out her sentence and attempted to grab Pearl's hand to drag her back to the house.
Seeing through their poor attempts at lying, Pearl stood her ground and refused to move from her spot. "What going on?" She asked pointedly while Bree tried to get her to move.
Instead of answering, her imprint doubled down and started to use all of her strength, in an attempt to move the hybrid. Noticing that her efforts were going to waste, as Pearl continued to stand firm, Bree called to Emmet for some assistance.
"A little help here?" She asked in an unhappy voice.
Emmet was standing off to the side watching Bree struggle, while smirking. He was well aware of Pearl's increased strength and found the whole situation highly amusing. But he did eventually join in to help Bree, and he was faced with the same issue, as Pearl still refused to budge from her spot.
"Tell me what's going on." Pearl demanded.
Emmet grunted as he tried to push her from behind, while Bree pulled on her arms at the front. Pearl dug her heels in and remained as still as a statue.
"Arg, come on!" Bree complained as she tried to pull her mate.
Pearl sighed then turned herself intangible. This caused Emmet to fly through her body, and land directly on top of Bree, who had also fallen over as Pearl's arms had disappeared from her grip. The two vampires groaned loudly once they hit the floor.
"Get off me you oaf!" Bree yelled from underneath her brother.
Emmet laughed and obeyed. Standing back up, they faced the hybrid, who was still transparent and untouchable. Bree glared at her mate, while Emmet continued to chuckle, unable to hide his amusement.
"I'm not moving from this spot, until you tell me what's going on." Pearl said, finality behind her voice.
Getting frustrated, Bree replied in a snarky tone. "If we tell you, it wouldn't be a surprise."
"Why are you trying to surprise me?" Pearl questioned in a suspicious tone.
"Dammit." Bree muttered once she realised her mistake.
Emmet smirked at the young vampire, happy that it wasn't him who let it slip.
Pearl turned to Emmet and intensified her look. "Emmet." She said, getting his attention. "What's Bree talking about?"
Emmet avoided her eyes and looked anywhere else instead. Clearly showing just how uncomfortable he was under her current gaze. Pearl kept her eyes glued on Emmet's form as he started to fidget. Bree side eyed him, becoming increasingly nervous that he was gonna cave.
"Emmet. Why did you guys need me out of the house?" The hybrid asked once again.
Just as it looked like he was about to answer, Bree sped over to him and slammed her hand against his mouth. Stopping him from spilling the beans about the surprise party. But in her rush to silence her brother, Bree's phone fell onto the ground and landed in front of Pearl.
Looking at the device, it's screen lit up with a new text from Alice.
Text read: 'What's taking you guys so long? The party is ready, so hurry up!'
By the time Bree managed to grab the phone, it was too late.
"Party? What party?" Pearl questioned them.
When the hybrid's eyes met Emmet's panicked ones, he blurted out, "It's your surprise birthday party!"
"Emmet!" Bree yelled at him for ratting them out.
"Birthday party?" Pearl mumbled, confusion lacing her words.
"It's your birthday, dumbass!" Bree complained, finally drawing attention to the dates.
"Wait, it is?!" Pearl shouted in surprise.
"Yes." Emmet and Bree simultaneously replied in a blunt tone.
"God damn, forgot about that." The hybrid muttered.
Emmet smiled slyly at his sister, and replied while grinning, "We noticed."
Bree groaned once again, before saying, "Can we just go home now please?
Even if the surprise is ruined, there is still a party waiting.
" Then Bree turned her eye roll into a glare that was directed at Emmet, and added, "Alice is gonna kill you when she finds out that you buckled under the pressure. "
If it was possible for a vampire to go pale from fear, Emmet definitely did so.
Looking at her brother's face, Pearl started cackling. Knowing full well what Alice would put him through because he broke down and told her.
"EMMET!" The entire coven shouted the big vampire's name, as soon as the three of them entered the house through the front door.
The surprise was ruined, Pearl knew all about it. But even so, that didn't stop the hybrid from looking around in awe as she took in the fully decorated living room, which included a banner hanging up that wished her a happy birthday.
Whilst the family of vampires yelled at Emmet for caving so easily, Pearl silently walked over to the kitchen to investigate the sweet smell that was wafting out of the area.
Finding a freshly baked chocolate cake on the counter, a smile broke out onto Pearl's face.
Seeing all of the effort that they had all put into this, almost made her break down in tears.
Wordlessly, she walked back over to Bree, who had her arms crossed and was huffing at Emmet. Pearl wrapped her arms around Bree in a gentle manner from behind, and whispered into her ear. "I love it. With or without the surprise."
Bree finally let a small smile slip onto her face, and the entire family stopped yelling at Emmet after hearing what Pearl had said.
Now that all eyes were on her, Pearl spoke softly with a wide smile on her face. "Thank you everyone."
The coven all returned her smile and chorused loudly, "Happy Birthday Pearl!"
The vampire family spent the next couple of hours joking around and having fun.
Renesmee rambled on to Pearl about everything she had done in preparation for the party.
And when it was time to give Pearl her presents, the little toddler insisted that she be the one to deliver them to her aunt.
Each time Renesmee would hand Pearl a present, she would loudly announce who it was from in an excited manner.
By the end of the ordeal, Pearl had ended up with a lot of new art supplies, as well as quite a few new sketch books. She also got a couple of new reading books and a new laptop from Carlisle and Esme.
After thanking everyone profusely for their gifts, Jasper revealed that there was still one more left, and that it was from the entire family. Renesmee had Pearl close her eyes, then she and Bree dragged the unsuspecting hybrid towards the garage, with the rest of the family following close behind.
When Pearl was finally allowed to open her eyes, she came face to face with a brand new motorcycle. It was the same model that had dad had gotten her one year prior, the one that ended up being destroyed by Victoria.
Looking at the bike, Pearl almost broke down into tears. She was able to hold herself together just enough to ask, "Are you guys serious?" Her voice was quivering and full of hope.
Reading her emotions, Jasper was the first to reply. "Deadly." He said while smirking at her.
Not being able to hold back her emotions, Pearl let out a squeal of joy and grabbed the closest person and crushed them in a tight hug.
The person she happened to grab onto was Bree. And Bree couldn't hold back her giggles, when seeing the immense joy on her mate's face.
After practically squeezing the life out of Bree, Pearl was quick to hug every single member of her family as well.
The hugs all varied in intensity, as she had to be rather gentle with little Ren, but when it came down to hugging her brother Emmet, the hug was much tighter.
Mainly because Emmet had been determined to hug his little sister tighter than she could hug him.
As soon as Pearl had properly thanked the group, Carlisle made a suggestion, "Why don't you take it out for a test drive?"
"Hell yeah!" Pearl shouted and raced onto her new bike. Looking back to her family, she noticed the look of longing on her imprint's face. "Come on Bree!" She invited her to join.
Bree immediately perked up and situated herself on the back of the bike, hugging Pearl's waist in anticipation.
Minutes later, the sleek black motorcycle sped out of the Cullen's garage and took off down the road. Bree had her arms wrapped securely around Pearl's body, as the pair rode off into the distance with the wind in their faces.
'Best birthday ever!' Pearl thought, as she turned the throttle to go faster.
