Page 70 of Corrupted Pleasure
I threw myself into the seat, breathing heavily. We could already see the police, ambulance, and fire engine lights approaching, the sirens blaring.
“How much did we get?” Juliette asked.
“Three hundred thousand,” Wynter replied as she put the car into drive without delay. She sped up across the parking lot, in the opposite direction from all the fire engines approaching.
“How come you didn’t stop at fifty thousand?” I asked her curiously.
“Nobody came so I pushed my luck. It wasn’t until I was at over two hundred that the manager showed up,” she explained.
There was a hint of pride to her voice. I was proud of her too! That was an amazing game.
“Holy shit,” all four of us whispered at the same time.
If we could do this for a few months, maybe a year, we could have enough money to start a business. This school for the criminal masterminds, based on our own experiences.
“Let’s get out of this damn state,” I breathed.
CHAPTER31
Liam
Awhole fucking shipment of guns lost.
One of my trucks was hijacked on its way to my warehouse. The truck was approaching the George Washington Bridge from the New Jersey side.
I sat in the car with Quinn on my way to the location where the truck was parked according to Nico’s hacker. The guy was really good. I didn’t trust him with my family, but business was different. Lucky for me, we were alerted of the hijacked shipment within five minutes, so locating it didn’t take long.
The four women, on the other hand, was an entirely different story. I sent a message to Cassio thirty minutes ago, and I anxiously waited for the status. I was worried, furious, and back to worried at the recklessness these women exhibited.
My phone rang. It was Cassio. Perfect timing.
“Why isn’t your guy tailing the women?” I answered the call, my jaw clenched.
“My guy was shot dead while tailing them,” he retorted dryly. “In goddamn broad daylight, at a Pennsylvania gas station. Who in the fuck are those women, Liam?”
Fuck!
Dread tightened my lungs. Did the Russians find them? If they got their hands on them, they’d kill Juliette, Davina, and Ivy without a second thought. War was coming, whether I liked it or not. The Russians had been attacking my warehouse systematically with the end goal of weakening me. It was the Russians who undoubtedly hijacked my shipment today.
It was a bad fucking day when you hoped it was the DiLustros. But they wouldn’t have violated the agreement. Nor would they be so obvious about it.
“They are important,” I told him.
“I see,” Cassio said. “I need to know how important they are, Liam.”
I looked at Quinn and rasped, “Call Nico Morrelli and ask to check the same phone numbers I gave him.” I didn’t even finish my sentence and Quinn was on it.
“Very important,” I answered Cassio’s question, gritting my teeth. “If the Russians get their hands on them, they’ll get access to all of my territory.”Because I’ll give them all just to keep them alive.
“Russians?”
“Yes, fucking Russians,” I spat out.
“You should really consider hiring Alexei Nikolaev,” he tried again. “He’s the best in the field.”
Fuck! I knew it too.
“Can you have him get in touch with me?” I gritted out. I was gambling here, but I knew one thing for certain, the women would be safe if Nikolaev tailed them.
