Page 124 of Corrupted Pleasure
My eyelids grew heavy and I felt fatigue settle into my bones. After all, we’ve been physically active and I’ve been busy with the girls scheming our next heist.
“Liam?” I murmured sleepily, nuzzling into his chest.
“Hmmm.”
“Wynter asked me to spend the next two nights with her. She’s lonely and needs someone to record her while she’s skating. I’m usually the one doing it. It helps her spot her mistakes.”
Silence stretched.
“Is that okay?”
“I don’t like not having you in my bed,” he grumbled.
“She’s almost done with her exams and that project she’s helping with.” That was true. And if Wynter was right about this next heist, we’d be set for a long time. “Then that’ll be it,” I added.
“Davina, we have to tell them.” I knew he’d demand it. Honestly, I was surprised he let me get away with it for this long. “The longer it goes, the harder it will be to explain.” He was right, I knew he was. “Besides, what will you say when you’re pregnant? Blame it on the Holy Spirit.”
“I kind of like that plan,” I said wryly.
“Davina,” he warned.
“You’re right,” I caved in. I had only decided it myself mere hours ago in my sleep. “We’ll tell them.”Soon.
“One week.”
CHAPTER48
Davina
“Welcome to Philadelphia!”
The radio announcer timed it perfectly. The words echoed through the speakers of Wynter’s Jeep just as we traveled over The Benjamin Franklin Bridge that crossed the Delaware River.
Good sign.
“Yes!” Ivy and Juliette shouted from the back seat.
“This city is giving me good vibes,” exclaimed Ivy.
“Definitely a good sign,” Wynter said, glancing in the rear mirror and smiling. Her eyes glanced my way and winked. “I think after this job, we can narrow down the property for the school.”
“I’m thinking we’ll want about ten to twenty acres,” I added.
“Why so many?” Juliette frowned.
“Well, it will be like a college. We’ll need dorms, study halls, probably a lot of gyms to teach some fighting skills, and a lot of grounds around the school for privacy and for kids like us to roam around,” Wynter responded. “Rule number one. We won’t tolerate any bullying. There will be kids from all different organizations. But in our school, they won’t be rivals. They’ll be teachers and students. Nothing more and nothing less.”
“You actually read my texts,” I teased.
“Of course I did. I’m all in,” Wynter replied.
“We’re all in,” Juliette chimed in. She and Ivy leaned over from the back seat, Ivy directly behind Wynter and Juliette behind me. “And I know there are women married to mobsters who are educated and strong. We could hire them to teach some of the classes. So we don’t risk exposure.”
My head snapped her way. “That is actually a brilliant idea,” I commended Juliette. “We’ll need a list of all crime families and then start an evaluation of their skills.”
My heart actually sped up at all the possibilities.Look at us growing up!
Juliette grinned, proud of her idea and she had every right to be.
