Page 135 of Corrupted Pleasure
Focusing on the left side, I pulled the trigger and hit one. Quinn lifted his gun and fired.
Pop. Pop. Pop.
The bullets flew all around us. It was like a goddamn war in the heart of Manhattan.
From the corner of my eye, I spotted a shadow moving and I shifted, pointing the gun at the guy.
“Fuck, Cassio,” I gritted. “I almost shot your ass.”
He chuckled. “Not before I shot yours.”
Then I noticed his brother Luca behind him. “Why didn’t you invite us to the party, fucker?”
I smirked. “It’s a surprise party.”
Now all three of us were shooting and bodies started falling. Blood sprayed over the New York City sidewalk, and honestly, I was surprised no innocent bystanders were around.
“Russians?” Cassio asked.
“Probably.” Which meant they knew Wynter was in New York. “Fucking Russians,” I muttered under my breath as I aimed at another guy. Their numbers were quickly dwindling thanks to Cassio and Luca’s support. Five against twenty gave us better odds.
I spotted one of the Russians slam his body into my driver and I was quick to follow. Then I aimed.
Bang.
The sound of shots rang through the air. The enemy were almost subdued. My driver was in the wrong spot. I kept firing bullets, eliminating targets around him. It was almost over, when a bullet hit him right in the skull and I watched the life leave his eyes even before he hit the ground.
Fuck!I hated losing men. Good men in particular.
Quinn gasped for air behind me and I turned around to find him on his ass, his back against the building, and it was only then I realized he was bleeding. A lot.
“On your right,” Quinn warned and I whirled around just in time to duck as a bullet flew above my head.
Cassio lifted his gun and fired. And the last man flopped to the ground. The four of us were breathing hard; the adrenaline still rushing through our veins.
“Thank you,” I told him and Luca, extending my hand. We shook hands and rushed over to Quinn. I hunched down to check on him, his skin pasty. He struggled to keep his eyes open.
This was bad. His shirt was soaked with blood, blood coating his hands.
“You better not fucking die on me, you old bastard,” I demanded. Quinn has been through a lot with me.
“Says the other old bastard.”
“Let me take you to my place,” Cassio offered.
“No, I have to get him to my compound.” We had a state-of-the-art hospital room and he’d need to be somewhere where I could keep an eye on him.
I lifted Quinn’s big body and we rushed to his black Mercedes.
Once we were all settled inside Cassio’s car, he sped up, while I kept pressure on Quinn’s wound.
My phone rang and I answered it without checking who it was.
“Yeah.”
“Liam.” Alexei’s cold voice came through and cold dread filled me inside.
“Tell me the girls are fine,” I gritted. If something happened to them, I’d burn fucking Russia to the ground if I had to and kill the Pakhan once and for all. I couldn’t lose my wife, my niece, or my daughter.
