“Liam.” Nico’s voice was cautious and alarms blasted in the back of my mind. “Gio DiLustro transferred two hundred grand into Garrett Davison’s account a week ago.”
“Motherfucker,” I gritted. “Give me the rundown.”
I’ll get you back, mycéile.Safe and sound.
CHAPTER58
Davina
Ididn’t spend a lot of time in the trunk. Twenty minutes tops.
Thank God!
It was pitch dark, and I didn’t want to become scared of the dark. I kind of loved what Liam did to me in the dark. I mentally scolded myself.
“Stay focused on saving your own ass, Davina. Not your husband’s sexy ass,” I muttered to myself, as I roamed my hands around the trunk, hunting for anything useful. Maybe I’d get lucky, find a gun and shoot my crazy ex.
The car came to a sudden stop and my body rolled. Garrett never did know how to drive. Fucking moron.
I heard the car door opening, then footsteps walking around to the back of the car.
The trunk opened and the sun hit my eyes, blinding me. Before I recovered and started fighting, Garrett’s hand wrapped about my hair, gripping it to lead me out like a damn dog.
Ugh, I’m gonna kill him.
He yanked me out of the trunk and I landed on my feet. Thank God. I’d need to keep injuries to a minimum so I could bolt out of here.
Glancing around, I noted we were parked in front of a small, log cabin. Super small log cabin. Like the ones used only for a hunter’s temporary shelter. Woods surrounded us and the only way out seemed to be the way he drove us in. A dingy, little, one-lane blacktop road.
If I ran that way, he’d find me in minutes, if not seconds.
“You’re going to stay here, until you admit what you’ve done and give me the money you owe me,” he growled, pushing me forward.
“I have no fucking clue what you’re talking about,” I told him, playing dumb. I knew he got the money from the insurance company because Wynter’s boyfriend confirmed it. But hell if I’d admit to it.
I mean Garrett could buy another house. What more did this greedy motherfucker want?
Yeah, yeah. The irony of calling him a greedy motherfucker after stealing almost forty million dollars in cash didn’t escape me. But we were doing it for a good cause. A decent cause. Well, it was a cause - just unsure what kind.
“Yes, you do. Admit it,” he screamed like a madman. “You owe me.”
“Geez, Garrett,” I mumbled. “What happened to your house? I don't know what you're talking about?”
“You had no right,” he growled.
“I didn’t do anything.” I stood firm, though on the inside I was quivering. So much for being a badass criminal.
“You and your friends burned down my house,” he shouted.
I gulped. Gosh, I really didn’t know this guy at all. Maybe Juliette and Ivy saved me by starting that fire. Otherwise, I might have been still with this jackass.
“Listen, Garrett,” I said, trying to buy time. “My husband is expecting me.” His eyes popped out of his head. “He won’t be happy when I’m not there. And you know who’s gonna pay for that?” I drawled my question, my Texas accent coming out a bit. Without waiting for his answer, I continued. “You, buddy. Because guess what? He fucking hates it when other men talk to me.”
“You got married?” he asked, his expression almost shattered.
I scoffed. “I told you, I’ve been busy. I fell in love and got married. We’re having a baby.” Okay, tiny lie, but if it knocks some sense into Garrett’s thick head, it’d be worth it.
“But we’ve barely broken up.” It had been almost a month and there was no appropriate time to move on after a break up. After death, yes. But not moving on from a cheating scumbag of an ex-boyfriend.
