Page 29 of Corrupted Pleasure
The driver of the slick, black sports car stared at Wynter, and I couldn’t distinguish whether it was because she had soot on her cheek or he admired her beauty. With the doors taken off the Jeep, he probably had a good view of her long legs wearing white snug shorts and a pink off-the shoulder blouse, both now slightly soot-stained thanks to her insane cousin. Or maybe he knew her.
“What is it, Wynter?” I asked her, the car now behind us. I glanced over my shoulder and noted the driver looked back as he drove off, his eyes still on Wynter.
Maybe he recognized her as one of the top sports athletes in the country and possibly the world.
“I- I have an idea,” she muttered, as if she was talking to herself.
“What?” The three of us asked her.
Our answer was the screeching tires as she made a sharp U-turn in the middle of the city, violating multiple traffic laws. Speeding up, she passed two cars, before we found ourselves behind the black sports car.
McLaren.
That car would pay for Garrett’s blackmail. Maybe we’d hijack the car? Though with the driver behind the wheel, it was a questionable plan. Four against one. We might be able to beat him.
Jesus, has it come to that,I wondered silently.
Wynter pushed on the horn. “What are you doing?” I asked her, glancing around. The last thing we needed was to bring attention to us. All four of us were a mess. She ignored me and pushed on the horn again.
Honk. Honk. Honk.
The car in front of us came to a stop and Wynter slammed the brakes.
“What are you doing?” Juliette inquired.
“I have an idea,” Wynter told us all. “There might be a way to delete the surveillance.”
“How?”
She jumped out of the Jeep. Even with soot on her cheek, her wild curls cascading down her back and ash stains on her clothes, she still shone.
Her eyes traveled over the three of us. “Just trust me.”
We gaped as we watched her stride away from us and towards the car.
The three of us watched her, holding our breaths. With a trembling hand, she tucked her hair behind the ear. Her lips moved as she stared at the driver, and I cursed that we couldn’t hear what she was saying. There were a few back and forth words. Then the next second, the McLaren car door opened and a man stepped out.
A gasp sounded from the back seat, but I couldn’t tear my eyes from the guy that towered over Wynter.
Holy mother of God and all the saints above.
Tousled, coal black hair. Strong jaw. Gorgeous face. Beautiful mouth. High cut cheekbones throwing shade over a fierce expression. He cocked a brow as if surprised by what he learned. Dark eyes traveled over to us, and suddenly it struck me that this man could be charming and ruthless, at the same time. His whole persona screamed power and his sex appeal oozed all around him. I could practically taste it from here.
My eyes roamed over his black three-piece-suit, which made him look like an Italian devil who would tempt you and destroy you with his devastatingly handsome. This guy was dangerous. Deadly. And he knew it. Something akin to amusement crossed his expression as his eyes flicked back to us.
The next second all emotion disappeared from his face and shifted to an unreadable mask that was focused on its prey.Wynter.
He wanted her.
Wynter was too soft and warm underneath all her ice princess persona. Things wouldn’t bode well for her because this man had ruthless written all over him. With a capital R.
He tucked his hands into his pockets; his eyes zeroed in on the golden-haired woman with soft curls that matched her personality. There was something dark and possessive in his gaze as he watched her, and I got the distinct feeling it was too late for Wynter.
Because this man had already made up his mind when it came to her. Though the question remained, what did he decide?
“Jesus fucking Christ,” Juliette and Ivy muttered at the same time.
My eyes darted to them. “What?” I asked, wondering what got them upset.
