Page 69 of Corrupted Pleasure
These two were deadly. Both knew it. The casino got a few notches quieter or maybe the buzzing in my ears increased, drowning out all the noise.
Panic rose within me and my eyes darted to my friends. Both Ivy and Juliette gaped at the two men, their eyes wide. They must have sensed the danger too.
A knot moved up my throat and my mouth went dry. I scrambled for the phone but before my trembling hands could unlock it, I noted Juliette moving towards them. I met Ivy’s gaze across the room and her eyes widened. I wondered if she knew them. Or maybe she was just as mesmerized by them as the rest of the women in this room.
We were fucked. It was fucking whistle time.
CHAPTER30
Davina
Iwatched in slow motion as Juliette stumbled over the smooth black marble floor and slammed right into one of the two men.
Dante caught her without any effort and the usual, flirty Juliette blushed so hard, I could see it all the way from here.
My mouth just about dropped because in all of our four years of college, I had yet to see her blush. And we had done some stupid shit worth blushing over.
“Well played, Juliette,” I muttered under my breath. Then inhaling deeply, I whistled Rue’s whistle. Dante’s eyes darted my way and recognition flickered in them, but before he could act, Juliette’s palm pressed against his cheek and brought his attention back to her.
Time stilled as those two locked gazes. His movement was smooth, his one hand holding on to Juliette by her elbow while the other hung loose from his suit pant pocket. The man was built, a wall of muscle underneath his expensive, dark three-piece suit clearly visible.
From the corner of my eye, I noted Ivy moving and she was by the fire alarm handle. My gaze shot to Wynter. She spotted the whole scene too. Tilting her head like a queen dismissing her subjects, she stood up from the table.
“Keep him busy, Juliette,” I whispered to myself.
Wynter scooped up her chips and walked quickly away from the table but not in a way to cause suspicion, making her way to the area where she’d cash them in. Juliette’s mouth moved as she spoke to the strangers. She was rattled, all her focus on the dark-haired man. Her hands shook as she smoothed them against his chest, trying her best to appear like an experienced seductress.
The blonde one eyed her almost amused, his beautiful lips twisted into a cruel smile. He said something and Juliette’s gaze darted to him. Her mouth parted as if whatever he said shocked her, but then she got herself together and nodded. But her attention quickly returned to Dante.
Her hand still pressed against his chest, she took his tie, then said something as her eyes traveled between the two men.
Jesus, she’s really working on seducing both of them!
Whatever she said, it worked. Both of them stared at her, their dangerous aura and vibe entirely zeroed in on her. It was like waiting for a cobra to strike while Juliette poked at it.
I shifted nervously, eyeing Ivy. She was in place. Wynter glanced over her shoulder, her one foot tapping nervously underneath her long dress as she waited for her cash. Other than that small sign, she looked like the epitome of calmness.
My heart thundered under my rib cage and a reluctant thought passed my mind. My grandfather didn’t exactly envision this for me as he sent me to Yale. But before I could ponder the error of my actions further, a loud whistle had my head snapping in its direction.
Wynter’s signal. She was the only one that could whistle like a true New Yorker.
“Why in the fuck didn’t she do Rue’s whistle?” I grumbled under my breath as I pulled the big bottle of oil out of my oversized bag that totally didn’t match my dress.
Everything else that happened after that whistle was a blur. Ivy pulled the alarm handle, and Juliette rammed her knee into the dark-devil’s nuts then took off. Before he and his friend could go after her, I swished the gallon bottle of lavender oil across the floor, emptying it and then took off. It was pure luck that all their attention was on Juliette and hadn’t seen me dump the oil.
Seeing them slide across the marble floor slick with oil and almost falling onto their gorgeous asses was a priceless sight. I wished I had recorded it.
Running off, while the rest of the guests attempted to remain upright on their feet, I didn’t stop to look back again.
“Don’t stop,” I muttered breathlessly as I ran. “Get to the Jeep.”
Fuck, I should consider getting up in the morning and going for those long-ass jogs with Wynter because I could barely breathe.
The alarm blasted throughout the large building. The yelling of people behind me was loud, screeches of women and commotion creating the exact clusterfuck we intended to make. My heels dug into the blacktop as I ran across the parking lot, and I prayed everyone was already there. I couldn’t wait to get the fuck out of this city and state.
I rounded the corner to find all three of my friends already there. Wynter was already behind the wheel, Juliette and Ivy climbing into the back seat.
“Hurry,” Wynter shouted.
