“It’s in Uncle’s office,” Wynter answered in her cousin’s stead, since Juliette was too busy taking another gulp of her alcohol. “Behind a painting. His office is the last door down the hallway. You can’t miss it. Double door, dark mahogany wood.”
I took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. “Okay, then. I take the money, you distract him by making the crowd wild. I’ll need fifteen minutes. We’ll meet back in the parking lot by Wynter’s Jeep.”
“When you leave his office, take the back door,” Juliette chimed in. “That way you’re out of the building and less likely to get caught.”
Shared glances. Silent prayers. Although I wasn’t certain God would listen to a bunch of drunk girls.
“Undercover job number one. Diversion,” exclaimed Juliette. “Shake our asses. No problem.”
The chuckle followed and that was set.
Tomorrow we’d steal money from the safe of the head of the Brennan Irish mafia.
CHAPTER12
Liam
Riiiing. Riiiiing.
There was nothing more I wanted to do than throw my goddamn phone into the wall. It had been a never ending cycle of calls and shitstorms of one wrong thing after another all damn day.
A seized shipment of my guns. An attack on my dock warehouse. The legal one of all fucking things.
It didn’t take much brain power to figure out it was either the DiLustros or Russians. It was always the DiLustros or Russians.
Though this time I didn’t think it was the DiLustros. Not if they had any brains. They wouldn’t jeopardize their deal before it was final and that wouldn’t happen until tomorrow night.
Which left me with the only conclusion. It was the Russians. God, I didn’t feel like fucking dealing with the Bratva. Why in the fuck did my father get into bed with one of them? And then leave me to clean up the goddamn mess.
I glanced at the caller ID. Ireland prefix phone number.
Fucking lovely! Just what I needed today.
“Hello, Athair.”Father.
“Liam, I hear you’re working up an agreement with the Italians?” Yep, let’s go into attack mode.
How in the fuck my father even heard about this shit from across the ocean, I had no fucking clue. But he always heard shit. I was going to eventually update him.Eventually!Probably when the deal was sealed and behind me to ensure he didn’t do something crazy.
And my father was famous for his batshit crazy moves.
After all, he thought himself invincible and went after the Pakhan himself. By taking his precious daughter. Yes, he fell in love with her, but that wasn’t part of his plan. He almost got us and anyone connected to us killed. A normal person would have known how far was too far. Any fucker would know that going after someone’s child or wife was too far. The trouble was that my father wasn’t like any other fucker. And neither was Gio DiLustro. My father took from the Pakhan. Gio took from my father.
Ironic how the wheel goes round and round.
My father made so many wrongs against the powerful Pakhan, we had to take shelter back in Ireland. I was Killian’s age when shit went down. It was the reason I could relate to the boy.
And when I got strong enough, I came back to reclaim what was ours.
“Nice to talk to you too, Athair,” I retorted dryly. I wouldn’t comment on my dealings. I ran the business here. I was the head here. He liked to act like he was, but he hadn’t been part of this business in a long time, thanks to chasing his cock. He maintained control in Ireland, but here in the States, he made too many fuckups. I earned it all back.
“Why didn’t you consult me?” he asked, his voice shaking with anger.
“Because this territory is mine,” I told him calmly.
“I obtained that territory first, boy.” And here we went. “You’ll do well to remember it.”
“And you lost it too,” I reminded him. “I’m doing what’s best for my family.”
