One body out of the truck. We rolled the next one, when he groaned. “Fuck, I should stab him with the third needle,” she spat out.
“No,” I objected. “Just push him. He can’t do anything. We don’t want to overdose him.”
And another body out of the truck. “Okay, ride with Wynter,” I told Juliette. “See you at our destination.”
I shut the back door and ran over to the front seat of the armored truck just as Ivy successfully connected wires from under the steering wheel. Sparks ignited and the truck started.
She drove off the parking lot and we took off like the devil was on our heels.
Wynter and Juliette were right behind us, following us. I had no idea where Ivy learned to steal vehicles, but I didn’t bother asking. I was fucking glad she knew what she was doing. While she drove, I climbed into the back, my dress hiked up and barefoot. Once in the back, I unlocked the vault and my heart just about stopped. There were bags and bags of money.
I started moving all the bags of money closer to the door. And there was so much of it. I couldn’t even fathom how much money was in it.
“Call Wynter and tell her we’re all set for at least two years,” I told Ivy breathlessly, while she sped down the highway, grumbling to herself about fucking Americans driving on the wrong side of the road. “We fucking scored a jackpot!”
We smiled all the way down to the spot we identified where we’d stop and dump the vehicle.
Trenton, New Jersey. Delaware River.
CHAPTER50
Liam
It was almost midnight when Quinn and I left my office located on the last floor of the skyrise building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan that overlooked the Hudson River. It had been a long day of blueprint review and dealing with the architects.
My phone buzzed. Then buzzed again. And again.
Worried that something happened to the girls, I pulled out my phone and my lips curved up.
Wynter: You break her heart and we’ll kill you and bury your body in a shallow grave so animals can get to you.
I honestly didn’t know my niece had such violent thoughts. Then she followed up with the more proper message.*Congratulations, Uncle. I’m so happy for you both. Love you.*
Juliette’s message was even worse.*Yeah, that’s just gross. Just thinking about you and my best friend makes me want to be celibate for the rest of my life.*
I typed the message back.*Good. Then my mission is accomplished.*
An emoji with an eye roll followed, along with another message from Juliette. *Congrats. Make her cry and you’re dead.*
I had to admit, it pleased me that Davina told them about our marriage. It was about time my whole family learned about this marriage.
Then a message came from Davina.*They’re happy. Can’t wait to see you tomorrow.*
I didn’t like not having her in my bed. Nevertheless, I agreed to her spending the night with Wynter in the dorm, but tonight would be the last night. Lost in my thoughts, I walked out of the building and stepped on the sidewalk. Before I even had a chance to inhale fresh air, bullets started flying.
Quinn’s body slammed into me and got me out of the way, right in the nick of time.
“Fuck,” I grumbled, bracing for impact. Once my body slammed into the ground, I reached behind me and pulled out my gun tucked in the back of my pants.
Everything happened fast.
The sounds of gunfire filled the air.
“Take your right,” I hissed. “I’ll take the left.”
I could see my driver from here. He already had a gun in his hand and he started shooting. One man down.
I surveyed the situation. We were outnumbered. By a lot. There were about twenty men surrounding us.
