Page 150 of Corrupted Pleasure
“Go with your friend, Wynter, and don’t stay alone. When it’s safe, I’ll send you a note. If something happens, you call me or Killian.” Her soft gasp came over the line. “He’s back,” I clarified.
“Oh, okay. I will.”
“Good. Now get out of there. And don’t take an Uber,” I warned her. “If this friend of yours cannot bring you home, call me. Got it?”
“Yes.”
And the line went dead.
* * *
I stood in front of Wynter’s Jeep, her bra in my hand.
Fuck, I should have kept Alexei on her. Or somebody else, anybody. If I had, Davina would be here.
It was definitely my wife’s. Our last conversation played in my mind. The timing was suspicious. Or maybe I was paranoid because I forced her to marry me. Yet, deep down I didn’t think Davina was a woman that committed to something and then bailed on it.
I dialed the facility where her grandfather was.
The receptionist's voice came through. “Sunrise. How may I help you?”
“This is Liam Brennan,” I got straight to the point. “Has my wife come to visit yet?”
She wouldn’t have gone without me, but it wouldn’t hurt to go through the process of elimination.
“No, Mr. Brennan. Not yet.”
“Thank you.” I ended the call and dialed Nico Morrelli.
“Liam,” he greeted. “At this rate, we’ll be best friends.”
I ignored his comment. There was no time to waste. “I need all the addresses for Garrett Davison.”
“Who the fuck is Garrett Davidson?” he spat out.
“My wife’s ex-boyfriend,” I grumbled. “The girls burned down his house.”
“Jesus fucking Christ. You weren’t joking before, were you?”
“Fuck no!” I spat out. “My niece thinks he kidnapped Davina.” I kept turning Davina’s bra over and over in my hand. I probably looked like some fucking pervert.
“Give me five minutes and I’ll text you.”
I clicked the end button and climbed into the Jeep, glancing around for any other signs. I took Davina’s purse and dug through it. Phone left behind. Little toiletry case. Her wallet. An old-fashioned calendar.
I opened it on the last day.*Liam. Grandpa. Sex.*
If I had an ounce of doubt, I no longer had it. She was coming home to me. Someone took her and Wynter seemed to be convinced it was her ex-boyfriend. I trusted my niece, and if her sixth sense told her it was Garrett, I believed her.
And he’d been harassing her. My wife!
I’m coming, my céile.
My phone beeped. Message from Nico. Two addresses.
*The first address is the burned down house.*
Second address it is, I thought silently. Davina left me a sign. She counted on me to keep her safe. And I would. At. All. Costs.
