How could she be so damn calm?
Stealing from an Irish mobster while he was nowhere to be found was one thing, but stealing from him while he was in the building was something entirely different. This should have been my first clue that I had lost my mind, because I should have been objecting to stealing from him at all.
“I swear, I feel like I am living in theGood Girlsshow right now,” I muttered under my breath, shoving both my hands through my hair. I gripped the strands and tugged on them, the pain on my scalp reminding me all this was real.
“Is it a fun show?” It was Wynter who asked the question, curiosity in her eyes. I blinked my eyes. Then blinked them again.
“That’s not the point, woman,” I snapped, my eyes probably portraying the panic I felt. “Stealing from a mobster while he is not around is one thing. But while he’s in the building?” I voiced my concern.
I felt like I should put ten question marks after that to emphasize my point.
Besides, if I saw the Irish mobster, I might just combust. I’ve seen the man jack off. Even after all these months, my panties melted when I thought about it.Fuck!
“Dad won’t do anything to us,” Juliette protested.
“He won’t do anything toyou,” I objected, though my insides were hot and bothered. “You are his family. Ivy is another mobster’s daughter. But I-”
Oh my God! The four of us were idiots. Probably the worst criminals to walk this earth. Maybe if I got out of this alive, I could start a school for up and coming criminals and teach kids what not to do.It actually isn’t a bad idea, I congratulated myself scoffingly.
“Maybe we should just ask him if we can borrow it?” I suggested hopeful.
“And what? Tell him we burned down a man’s house and now he’s blackmailing us.” Ivy rolled her eyes. “And if we don’t tell him anything, he’d torture us. And Garrett.” Ivy’s brothers were enforcers for her family’s mafia in Ireland and Ivy picked up a thing or two.
How in the fucking hell did I end up surrounded by mobsters and their relatives? Small world, huh?
“He would kill Garrett. Literally,” Juliette muttered. “Then he’d kill us, figuratively speaking. Maybe literally.”
Oh my gosh. This was all bad. Suddenly, my mouth was too dry, and I was parched. So I rushed to the liquor cabinet, in desperate need of a drink. Wynter offered me her glass of wine but I needed something stronger. My eyes roamed over the selections and then I saw it.
Croizet Cognac Cuvée Léonie, a hundred and sixty thousand dollar bottle of cognac, give or take a few thousand.
My grandfather had a small liquor store when I was a kid. I knew brands of alcohol, and I recognized expensive bottles. I climbed up on the little bar counter and reached to the top shelf where the cognac bottle sat all on its own. If he had two more of those, we could take them and sell them without going to the club and stealing cash out of the mobster’s safe while he roamed the building.
Jumping off the counter, landing with both my feet firmly on the ground and a cognac bottle in my hand, a loud cheer broke out behind me.
“You go, Davina,” Juliette giggled. “Go for the best.”
Unscrewing the bottle, I took a swig directly out of it. The alcohol burned down my throat and straight to my stomach. Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand that trembled slightly, I handed it to Wynter who shook her head.
“I’ll take it,” Juliette reached out. She drank out of the bottle then passed the bottle to Ivy, who then offered it back to me. “Wow, no wonder dear old dad was keeping this one for himself.”
“It probably has something to do with its price tag?” Wynter said, teasing her cousin. “Back to the topic at hand. We need to pick one of us to get into the safe and you, Juliette-”
“I’ll do it,” I cut her off. A set of hazel, green and dark blue eyes locked on me. “This all started because of me. I will break into the safe and you three distract the Irish mobster.”
Because I needed to avoid that man.
“But-” Juliette tried to protest and I stopped her by raising my hand.
“No buts,” I cut her off. “I will do it. You just keep your hot mobster father distracted.”
“Someone’s got the hots for older men,” Ivy teased. “I’ll remember to keep you away from my father.”
I scoffed. One hot criminal was quite enough for me. Not that Juliette’s father was mine. But I’d lie if I said he wasn’t on my mind. All. The. Fucking. Time. When I needed release. Or in my dreams.
Fuck! It’d be best if I never saw him again.
“So this is how we do this,” I started. “The three of you make a commotion in the bar area. I don’t know, get on top of the bar and shake your ass. The crowd will get wild and excited. In the meantime, I’ll sneak into the room with the safe.” It sounded like a reasonable plan. “Where is the safe?” I asked Juliette.
