“Babies,” Jai said, “I’m having babies.”
“Well, good for you, hun,” the pretty middle-aged nurse said, “let’s get you in and all settled why don’t we.”
His alpha chimed in, “We booked a suite, I mean a room. I mean we booked him into one of those delivery room places.”
“I know what you mean, sir,” the nurse laughed, pushing Jai in the wheelchair towards the paternity wing, while Nickolas followed with his bags and the babies’ bags.
Jai was now having painful contractions, making him curse loudly, “Fuckthis, I need drugs. I need lots of fucking drugs.” Jai moaned as another contraction hit.
“Let’s get you settled and check you out and see if you’re ready for those drugs.” The nurse said in such a cheery voice, it made him want to punch her.
Jai was taken to a private room and Nickolas, who seemed to have snapped out of his own panic at the sound of Jai’s pain, helped him into a hospital gown.
The doctor they’d been seeing ever since Jai transferred to this hospital, came into the room and put on some gloves, “I hear you want drugs, Mr. Knox, let’s see how far along you are why don’t we?” and he put Jai’s leg into the stirrups.
Nickolas was at his side, holding Jai’s hand, telling him how strong he was, and how proud of Jai he was. “We are going to meet our boys. Ourboys.” Nickolas repeated in awe, holding Jai’s hand with one hand and running the other through Jai’s hair soothingly.
“Uh, oh! Looks like we are actually further along than you thought. These babies are coming now,” the doc said, meeting their gaze with a grin.
“What? No? My contractions didn’t even last long,” Jai cried.
“It’s not uncommon, but I think you were probably in labor for a while.” the doctor said.
“Back labor,” Jai said, “I read about it. My back was killing me, on and off all day, but I didn’t know that was what it was.”
“Ahh, that explains it,” Dr. Kelly said, agreeing with him. “Well, I guess these little guys can’t wait to meet their papa and their daddy.”
Thing went pretty fast after that, and Jai started screaming as another contraction hit. Nickolas held his hand the whole time, and talked Jai through every contraction, even when Jai called him some very choice names, and promised to stick certain objects in places they should never go. His alpha just laughed, kissed his forehead, and told him how brave he was being. Nickolas scooped a spoonful of ice chips and gently fed them to him, while tenderly brushing Jai’s hair back from his sweaty brow.
“I love you, Jai, so much,” Nickolas said.
“Oh, fucking bite me,” Jai hissed, as another big contraction wracked his body.
“All right, here we go. This is it now, I need you to bear down as hard as you can and give one big push with the next contraction.” Dr. Kelly said calmly.
Jai tightened his grip on his alpha’s hand, and bore down, pushing so hard that he could feel the veins in his neck bulge like they were about to pop. He let loose with another stream of profanities and pushed as hard as he could. After what seemed to him like forever, but was probably no time at all, his first son was born. The little fella came out screaming. Jai relaxed at once as he looked up at his alpha, wide-eyed in wonder, and met the same look in Nickolas’ eyes at the sound of their son's cries.
The nurse took him away to get cleaned up, although Jai really wanted to tell them to bring his baby back. But before he could say a word, another contraction hit and the doc said, “Okay Jai, you know the drill. I need a big push from you, and then you can meet your other son.”
Jai grabbed his alpha’s hand and bore down again, like he was trying to have the biggest poop of his life and pushed. A minute or so later their other perfect baby entered the world, screaming louder than his brother, and with flaming-red hair, just like Jai.
“You have two perfect baby boys. Congratulations,” Dr. Kelly said, as another nurse took their second little boy away.
Jai looked at his alpha to see tears in his eyes.
“You did so good, baby. So good. We havesons,” Nickolas choked out, his voice full of emotion, “our boys, Phoenix and Cameron. Thank you. Thank you, baby. I love you so much,” Nickolas said, kissing Jai on his forehead then on the lips.
“I love you too, my alpha,” Jai said, in a scratchy voice filled with exhaustion.
Since Jai had lost his grandfather to cancer, they had decided early on to store the cord blood for their twins which the doctor readied, while a nurse came in and cleaned Jai up.
The moment his twins were placed in his arms, Jai looked at those two beautiful faces and knew that his life would never be the same again. He looked at his alpha and saw the same pure joy and love he imagined was on his own face and thanked the gods for giving him this alpha and these two beautiful babies.
His alpha met his gaze, then looked down at their boys, he touched a finger to Cameron’s cheek, “Jai,” he breathed. “That was the most beautiful, amazing, wonderful thing that I have ever seen in my whole life. You are the strongest person I know. And I thank the gods every day that you walked into my office and changed my existence. I promise you, baby, I'm going be the best dad to Cam and Nix. And the best alpha and husband to you baby. I love you so much. So fuckingmuch. I’m so glad I never have to imagine my life without you.”
Jai looked into his alpha’s eyes and saw his future. He couldn’t wait to spend forever with the only alpha for him, and their amazing sons. Who would have thought this most unsuitable omega would win the alpha?
