He heard Gray say, “Come on, big guy, bath time, then daddy will come to tuck you in and read you a story.”

Gray left the room, leaving Nickolas with his thoughts, and all of them were judging him. From the start, he had known Jai was different, if he was being honest, it was probably why he’d not mentioned Asa. Nickolas called himself all kinds of fool, for not following his gut – his heart – when it’d been trying to tell him that Jai was home for him. He should have broken things off immediately with Asa, but instead, he had made excuses. Excuses that left him without the omega who had brought light back into his life, and saved him from the misery he surely would have had to endure if he had married Asa.

Gray returned with two tumblers of whiskey on the rocks, handing one to Nickolas before taking his seat, “Okay, seriously, what’s up brother? You look like shit. What gives? Did your omega refuse to take you back?”

Nickolas sighed and leaned forward, staring into his whiskey, like it held all the answers, before replying, “I went to his apartment and he’s gone.”

“What do you mean gone? Where did he go?” Gray asked.

“What else could I mean by gone? Like disappeared, left, not there, departed.” Nickolas said in a rough tone.

“Okay. Okay. I get it. He wasn’t at his apartment. Are you sure he wasn’t just out?” Gray asked.

Nickolas shook his head, “I slipped the super some money and he opened the door to the apartment. It was empty. He’s gone.”

“Wow. Brother, you must have seriously fucked up bad for him to leave his apartment to get away from you.” Grayson commented.

“Well thank you Captain Obvious. I hadn’t figured that out myself.” Nickolas snapped.

“Don’t take it out on me cos your omega ran away from you and doesn’t want you,” Gray said in a bland tone, ignoring Nickolas’ pissy attitude.

“Who said anything about him not wanting me?” Nickolas said.

“Well, last I checked, when someone up and disappears to avoid the other someone, it’s a pretty clear indication of not being wanted.” Gray pointed out, in the same measured tone.

“Fuck you very much,” Nickolas said.

“Sorry brother, you’re not my type,” Gray said calmly, before laughing and taking a sip of his whiskey.

“I fucked up, man,” Nickolas said again.

“I think we’ve already established that. So, what are you going to do about it? Because I assume since you in my house whining like a little bitch-baby, you want to get this omega back.” Gray said.

“OfcourseI fucking want him back,” Nickolas growled.

“Don’t bite my head off, I’m just trying to help,” Gray said, laughing at Nickolas.

“Well, it would help if you didn’t find my pain so amusing,” Nickolas said, through gritted teeth.

“Hey, who saw this day coming? When you, the most cynical of them all, is pining over an omega.” Gray said with a grin Nickolas wanted to punch off his face.

“Says the man who has sworn off marriage and omegas,” Nickolas said.

Grayson lost the smile on his face and his lip twisted, before he said in a bitter tone, “Well we both know I have a very good reason.”

“Yeah man, I know. Sorry for bringing it up.” Nickolas said apologetically, knowing what Gray had been through.

“It’s fine, and I was busting your balls. But you know I’ll help you however I can. You’re doing something I wish I could.” Grayson said in a somber tone, “I fucking wish I had never agreed to marry Dakota. I wish someone had told me… well, this isn’t about me. But brother, if this omega is your true chance at happiness, I will help you search to the ends of the earth for him.”

“I don’t think he’s got that far, ” Nickolas said, to lighten the suddenly heavy mood that always came about whenever Grayson spoke about his marriage.

“Idiot. You know what I mean.” Gray said in a brighter tone.

“I do and thank you. Jai is… well, he’s nothing that I expected, you know. He’s sweet and thoughtful, but then, he has this backbone of steel that comes out… and he puts me in my place.” Nickolas said, a smile coming on his face just thinking about Jai.

“Wow. You really are whipped, aren’t you? Never thought I’d see the day.” Grayson said, in a tone, Nickolas could swear was envy.

“I’m sure you’ll meet someone, too,” Nickolas said.
