Nickolas

Before he even left Grayson’s house Nickolas sent Jai a couple of messages.

N: Please call me we need to talk.

N: I can explain everything please just give me a chance.

N: I swear it’s not what you think.

N: Jai, baby, please I just want a chance to explain. I never meant to hurt you.

Jai had read the first three or so messages because Nickolas could see the read icon then the rest simply said delivered. But he figured as long as they were delivering he would keep trying. He didn’t get any replies. Over the next few days, Nickolas managed to completely fill Jai’s voicemail, but he still got no reply.

But it didn’t stop him from trying, even though he figured Jai had either turned off or gotten rid of the phone, it was the only way he could think of to communicate with him, and if he stopped texting, it would be like losing the last link he had to Jai.

The next day, the first thing he did once he got into the office was call into the HR department to get Jai’s file. There were possibly privacy laws he was breaching, but at this point, he honestly did not care. He was willing to do whatever it took to find Jai.

Unfortunately, the only address that was on file was the one Nickolas had already checked.

He’d decided to call Jai’s department supervisor, to see if he could get any information from him that wasn’t in the file.

There was a knock on his door less than five minutes after he’d asked his assistant to get the supervisor of Jai’s department who, Nickolas had been informed, was an alpha named Reid.

“Enter. ” Nickolas instructed.

Nickolas looked up from his laptop to find a young blond, good-looking alpha standing in front of him, “Sit,” he said.

“Thank you, sir,” Reid said.

Nickolas wrapped up the email he was sending, before closing his laptop and giving his full attention to the alpha sitting in front of him. He considered his words carefully, before saying, “So, I hear you’re one staff member short in your department.”

“Yes, sir,” Reid said, “but it’s nothing we cannot handle. One of our new employees left without notice.”

“Hmmm…” Nickolas murmured, “and what can you tell me about this employee?”

“Well, sir, I’m not sure what you would like to know,” Reid answered.

“Who were his friends?” Nickolas asked.

“Well, he was a strange one,” Reid answered, “I don’t think he made many friends here, sir.”

Nickolas was getting frustrated at the lack of information, but he couldn’t exactly come out and ask what he wanted now, could he?

“Okay,” Nickolas said, “So, did he mention anything about family or friends outside of work?”

“Not that I can recall, sir, but if I may speak freely?” Reid asked. Nickolas nodded a yes. “Well, sir, I’m not sure why you’re worried. It was just an omega who quit. Besides, he wasn’t very corporative, if you know what I mean,” the young alpha said in a conspiratorial tone.

Nickolas frowned inwardly but didn’t say anything, only making a small sound which the alpha seemed to see as permission to keep sharing.

“Uppity omega didn’t know how to respect an alpha. Always acted like he was better when all he had to do was behave the way an omega should.” Reid shared.

“And what way isthat, exactly?” Nickolas asked, in a dangerous tone the younger alpha didn’t seem to catch, or was too stupid to heed.

“Well, you know,” Reid said in a suggestive tone, “an omega is here to service the alpha. But that red-haired one didn’t know his place. I had half a mind to teach it to him.”

Nickolas’ face twisted in disgust at what the alpha was suggesting, but the alpha seemed to think he had a supporter in Nickolas as he kept talking, “Omegas nowadays have forgotten their place, reporting every little thing.”
