Nickolas

Nickolas was losing his mind. He never for a moment imagined it would be this difficult to find one omega. Jai had been gone for going on three months and still the P.I. had not located him. They had found the house and town he’d grown up in with his grandparents, but no one had seen him.

“Mr. Ricci…?’ one of his board members called. Apparently, the silence in the boardroom had lasted longer than was comfortable, and everyone around the table was looking at him strangely.

Nickolas shot them an angry glance, for the interruption. “You’re all dismissed.”

Where the hell had Jai disappeared to? Nickolas worried in frustration and gnawing fear. What if he never found Jai? What if he was truly gone from Nickolas’ life? What then? What was he to do then? For the first time in his life, Nickolas felt what it mean to not be in control of everything in his life.

His wealth was no good in this situation, because what good was it to him when it wasn’t helping him find his omega. He had railed at the P.I. for his incompetence, taking out all the frustration he was feeling towards himself and heaping it on the man. But he wasn’t mad at the P.I., he was mad at himself for creating this mess in the first place.

He should never have agreed to the arranged marriage. It had been a serious mistake on his part. Nickolas now regretted not listening to his instincts. A part of him was also mad at Jai for disappearing without a trace. Were they worth that little to him? Did he mean nothing? Nickolas knew he’d fucked up, but Jai being gone, ignoring his text and voicemails. If you loved someone didn’t you stay and fight?

Nickolas had never had an omega run away from him before. Hell, they usually hung around and tried to get as much as they could.

The worst part was Nickolas knew Jai wanted him just as much as Nickolas wanted him. So why wouldn’t he just come back?

Nickolas was in that boardroom, lost in thought. He didn’t recognize the passage of time.

Nickolas’ phone ringing incessantly brought him out of his thoughts.

“Who’s this?” Nickolas asked impatiently, upset at the interruption.

“Is this Nickolas… Nickolas Ricci?” The female on the phone asked.

“This is he. Who is this?” Nickolas asked again, this time in annoyance.

“I’m calling on behalf of Jaimie Knox… I’m his aunt.” The woman said.

Nickolas rose from his seat. Every instinct on instant alert, “Where is he? Is he okay? Can I speak to him?” Nickolas fired off.

“He would be so mad at me for calling,” the woman murmured, not answering any of the questions he asked. Making Nickolas want to screamfocus. But he didn’t want the first link to Jai in months disappearing, because he acted like a crazy person.

“Where is he please? I’ve been hoping to hear from him for months.” Nickolas said.

“He’s in the hospital. He’s too stubborn to call, but he needs you.” The woman said.

“Just tell me where he is, and I’ll be there,” Nickolas said, determined to get an exact location.

Jai’s aunt gave him the information, and Nickolas quickly made his way to the elevator, knowing he would be at Jai’s side very soon. He couldn’t believe that Jai had been less than five hours away from him this whole time.
