Nickolas skin crawled at the implication this alpha working here was making, and he hoped like hell that was not what happened between him and Jai. He would hate to think Jai felt coerced into their relationship. But before he could even ponder that thought further he had to deal with this situation.

“You don’t say,” Nickolas prompted.

“I’m telling you, that one who left needed a good knot, to loosen him up. If you know what I mean.” Reid said, lewdly.

Nickolas had to call on more self-restraint than he’d ever had to use, not to pound the alpha’s face in for speaking about Jai in that way. But he held himself back, knowing it would do him no good. Instead, he said in his frostiest tone, “No, I don’t, and you will do very well to never speak about Jai, or any other omega in my employ, in that way. You are dismissed from the Ricci Corporation, and believe me when I say I will be doing a full investigation with every staff member in your department. If I even get a whiff of misconduct, losing your job will be the least of your worries.” Nickolas said silkily. “Now get out of my office.”

Nickolas could see the moment the alpha realized he’d made a serious error, with the way his mouth opened and closed like a guppy before he stood and quickly made his way out.

Nickolas sighed. “Well, that wasn’t helpful in finding Jai,” running his fingers through his hair in frustration. He guessed he had no choice. He would have to hire a PI to locate his omega. Because he wasn’t about to give up.

It didn’t take longfor his parents to hear about him ending his engagement with Asa. Apparently, Asa’s parents had called his parents very upset, not that he had expected anything less. But, with Jai still missing, or rather gone, he just couldn’t bring himself to care about anything they said.

However, his parents were persistent, and that was how he’d found himself on his way to their house for dinner – which was really code for hours of listening to them telling him to do what they wanted – but he couldn’t avoid them forever.

Nickolas went to his parents’ house that Sunday with an exit plan. It wasn’t that he thought they could change his mind, but he wasn’t in a sociable mood. He had been a bear to be around since Jai left, he knew it, but he couldn’t help it.

Nickolas walked into his parents’ monstrosity, as he called the house he’d grown up in. It was huge and way too flashy for his taste, but that was how his parents liked it. They liked to flaunt their wealth, they wanted people knowing who they were, and how rich they were, wherever they went.

Nickolas came to a stop in the driveway and got out of his car. He climbed up the familiar steps of his childhood home that looked like something out of a children’s book of what a mansion should look like.

He walked into the house without bothering to ring the bell, and made his way to the sunroom, knowing that was where his parents would be before they moved to the dining room for lunch.

Nickolas walked in to find his brother, Graham, his father, and his mother. He walked towards Graham first and his brother stood to give him a hug.

“I’m glad you’re here. Now they can focus on all the waysyou’vedisappointed them. Although, this is a first, and what a way to start big brother.” Graham whispered, before stepping back.

Nickolas laughed and let go of his brother, before replying low enough so only Graham could hear him, “Well, we all know I’m an overachiever.”

His brother laughed before taking his seat again. Nickolas walked to his mother, bending to place a kiss on her cheek, “Hello mother.”

“Nickolas,” His mother replied.

He walked over to the chair beside Graham and sat down, while saying hello to his father in acknowledgment, “Father.” But all he got was a grunt from his father, who didn’t even bother to drop the novel he was reading, not that Nickolas expected more. “You summoned me,” he said.

It was his mom who spoke, his dad not even looking up. “Can’t a mother invite her son to a Sunday dinner without an ulterior motive?”

Nickolas snorted, “A mother can, but you have. So let’s hear it, mother.”

“Oh, Nickolas, I see your younger brother is rubbing off on you. You were never this way.”

“What way is that, exactly?” Nickolas asked in a sardonic tone.

“You’re being very…” His mother gestured at him like she couldn’t come up with a word that fit.

“Disappointing? Combative? Take your pick, mother.” Nickolas said, making Graham snort.

“I see you’re in no mood to listen,” His mother said.

“Oh, you mean listen to you tell me how it’s my duty to marry Asa, how duty and the family name are what’s important, and how I have to make you and father look good?” Nickolas said dryly, “Sorry to disappoint you mother, but that’s not happening.”

A frown marred his mother’s pretty face for a moment before she was back to her usual non-emotive look, “I heard all this is because of some common omega you think you’ve fallen in love with,” She said in a derisive tone.

Nickolas’ back straightened at Jai being called common, “Tread carefully, mother. My patience is not infinite.” Nickolas said in warning.

“Oh, honey, no one is telling you to get rid of the boy. I do understand an alpha like you requires certain things an omega as classy as Asa may be unwilling to provide. But sweetheart, we don’t leave our kind to marry the common-folk, even if you want to.” She sniffed before adding, “Play with them. No one is saying you have to give up your plaything. But it shouldn’t affect your marriage.”
