Nickolas

“I’m telling you, brother, Jai’s final trimester is a rollercoaster of emotions. Literally! It’s like invasion of the body snatchers.” Nickolas said to Gray, who was at his office for a meeting.

His best friend laughed, “I can’t even imagine,” Gray said wistfully.

“Trust me, man. He’s super forgetful and that upsets him. He’s so uncomfortable from carrying the twins, and that upsets him. He can’t see his dick, and his feet and fingers are as swollen as sausages and that upsets him. Although, me pointing out his fingers look like thick sausages may have been what upset him in the first place.” Nickolas said laughing.

“He would kill you if he could hear you,” Gray said.

“Do I look stupid to you? I would never say it where he could hear me.” Nickolas said, before shuddering rather exaggeratedly.

“Then you better bribe me so I don’t tell him,” Gray threatened, only half joking.

“You wouldn’t,” Nickolas said, playing along.

“For the right price,” Gray replied.

“The thing is,” Nickolas said seriously, “I can’t make it better you know. Everything upsets Jai and when he snaps at me, and then starts crying for snapping at me. Well, I’m at a complete loss.”

His poor omega who was only petit, was feeling sluggish and slow. Not to mention his center of gravity being way off.

“All you can do is be there bro, literally. You can’t carry the babies for him, and you sure as fuck don’t know what he’s going through. So your one job is to be there. Just support him and make sure he feels beautiful.” Grayson said seriously. With the same wistful look on his face.

“Do you wish you’d experienced all that to get Max?” Nickolas asked astutely.

“Yea, brother. But it wasn’t meant to be I guess,” Grayson replied resigned.

“Come on now. You’re young. You could meet someone, get married again,” Nickolas said.

Grayson flinched at that, “Yea, pass. Been there, done that. But enough about me.”

“Alright, I get it. Don’t want to talk about it. You know I’m here for you. Always have been, always will be,” Nickolas said, dropping the subject.

“I know. I know. But all I can focus on right now is getting a reliable nanny for Max. As for the whole new omega thing? Well, you know why I can’t go there again.”

Nickolas lightened the mood, “I swear sometimes I feel like Jai wants to punch me in the face when he sees me.”

Gray snorted, “Well, I want to punch you in the face sometimes, so can we really blame it on the hormones?”

“Fuck off,” Nickolas retorted, “The crazy thing is, I wouldn’t change any of it for the world, because Jaiismy world you know.”

“Well you’re a lucky bastard then,” Grayson said, on a sigh.

Nickolas knew his friend, Gray didn’t want to talk about it just yet, so Nickolas would leave him be until hewasready. Instead of asking Grayson what was up he said, “Can’t imagine having to carry two babies and then push them out of his ass. Omegas are a miracle.”

That definitely seemed to put a small smile on Grayson’s face.

Nickolas left work early. He had been doing so since Jai got to his thirty-second week. He’d also been driving himself to work, making sure that Robert was available to drive Jai to the hospital if he went into labor while Nickolas was at work. But so far so good.

He walked into the house and called out for Jai, but got no response from his omega.

His housekeeper, Jean, came out of the kitchen, “Welcome home, Nickolas.”

Nickolas wasn’t overly formal with his staff, especially since most of them had worked for him ever since he left home, and were more like family. It didn’t hurt that whenever his mother visited and heard his staff calling him by his first name, her face twisted as if she’d bitten into a sour grapefruit.
