Jai
Somebody should kill him and put him out of his misery. Jai could recall his body getting warm all over, being close to the imposing alpha at the head of the table. The man was in one word –perfection– in the tailored, dark-gray business suit.
Never in his life had he laid his eyes on anyone so magnificent. With those lean strong features and the muscular frame, he knew he would completely tower over him. Where he was fair, the alpha was dark and imposing. For the first time in his life, his tummy flipped and his heart began to thump at an alarming rate, making it hard to breathe. There was a painful twisty sensation making its presence known low in his pelvic region, sending genuine confusion through his body. Jai was usually so good at focusing, sometimes to the point he got lost in his own world, but he’d had to make the effort to bring his attention back to the task at hand.
He was confused at first at the feelings he was having until he pinpointed them for what they were, arousal. He had never been more ashamed of his behavior in his life. He was so embarrassed at how much he stared at the most beautiful creature he’d ever laid his eyes on. But he had made a complete and utter fool of himself. The alpha must have thought Jai was completely useless after that display. He couldn’t help but recall the feel of the man’s hand wrapped around his wrist when his hand shaking, steadying him. How kind he was, Jai’s mind supplied, rather unhelpfully, for his current situation.
He was completely mortified at making such a spectacle of himself in front of who he assumed was the boss, from the way the people around deferred to him. He knew the accident had occurred because being around the alpha had scrambled his brain. He’d tried getting his wits about him, but clearly, he’d failed and so spectacularly too.
His plan had been to hurry and serve the remainder of the table, but instead, he’d managed to ruin the meeting. The accident had almost occurred in slow motion for him, he’d seen it happen, but he was still unable to prevent it from occurring.
Jai had never felt more of an idiot. He’d let himself get flustered and he was furious with himself for it. He’d locked himself in a bathroom stall to calm down, but it hadn’t really helped. Who managed to meet the boss, and make the worst possible impression on him on their first day? Not only had he made a complete ass of himself, but he was also pretty sure he hadn’t been able to hide the tears of frustration and dismay that had filled his eyes when he’d realized how badly he’d screwed up. So much for professional. There was no way they would keep him on after such a display of incompetence.
He felt very uncomfortable at the feeling that had come over him. He knew he was naïve and inexperienced when it came to men, but he’d never expected to behave the way he had, or to be affected the way he had been.
His early teenage years had been very restrictive, and he had never gotten the chance to explore any kind of sexual events that may have given him a handle on how to deal with the current things he was feeling. There had been just no room to cultivate a social life, and he had never made any friends when they realized he was prone to turning down all invitations.
In a lot of ways, he was mature for his age, because of how he’d grown up. Even now living alone, since his grandparents had passed away, he had discovered he had nothing in common with people his age. He was uncomfortable at how freely sex was discussed and couldn’t understand why anyone would want to get drunk just for the sake of it.
Granted, he had never been attracted to any alpha before, until he’d set eyes on the alpha he’d just made an ass of himself in front of. His brain had turned to mush and his body felt like it wasn’t his. He’d never in his life had such a response to anyone. The strength of that physical pull had taken him completely by surprise.
That awareness of the private parts of his body still lingered, taunting him. Never in his life had his body felt this warm outside of his heat. And he knew that wasn’t making an appearance for another week, at least, he thought so. He never really kept track of it, but always had his suppressants ready to go.
Never had his omega-ness been more apparent to him. Reminding him that he had sexual responses that had nothing to do with common sense or self-control.
He prayed to the goddess that the alpha hadn’t guessed why he was staring at him. Because that would be the final nail in his coffin. While the man must be used to attracting female and omega attention, he probably expected more dignified behavior from his staff members.
“Mr. Knox,” the young alpha manager from earlier stood blocking the entrance to his cubicle, “a word please.” Jai swallowed nervously and faced the man, “Well I heard you put on quite a show. You clearly don’t intend to stick around with such a blunder on your first day.”
He paled at the implication he might lose the job just after only one day. “I’m so sorry. I don’t know what came over me. I swear I can do better.”
“Well only time will tell now, won’t it? Although with your looks I’m sure we can work something out.” The alpha said with a leer, making Jai’s skin crawl. The alpha must have seen the horrified look on his face, because he said, “Or we can ship you out as fast as you were hired. No skin off my nose.” He added before backing out of the cubicle leaving Jai to ponder his options.
He resolved to be a model employee moving forward, and maybe if he apologized directly to the alpha, he could smooth everything out. Yes, that was what he was going to do. He would find out who he was and where to find him, and make sure he knew Jai wasn’t a total blundering idiot. He would grovel and hope that the memory of the incident was forever wiped out of the alpha’s mind.
Tomorrow he would seek him out first thing in the morning for a moment. Maybe if he showed him he wasn't completely unbalanced by serving him coffee without making him wear it, then he could go back to do his job without fear of being tossed out on his ass at any minute. All he needed was a few minutes to apologize and promise to do better, hopefully, that would smooth over the awkward episode.
