Nickolas
Nickolas had to admit to himself that he was a coward. He had extended his trip to some of the company’s latest acquisitions longer than was strictly necessary, but when his craving for the young omega grew instead of lessening, he’d needed to prove to himself that he could resist him. So instead of calling and checking on the omega as he had wanted, he’d gone radio silent, but he figured two weeks was enough time to prove that the omega was nothing more than good sex. At least that was what he was telling himself.
During the past two weeks, each time Asa had called, every word out of his mouth had grated on Nickolas’ last nerve. Just the sound of his voice had made Nickolas cringe. Whenever he’d brought up ideas and asked opinions on their wedding, Nickolas had stalled or deflected. Just thinking about their marriage now made him feel like a noose was tightening around his neck.
All that had gone away once he decided to pay the omega a visit. But imagine his surprise when the omega had sent his driver, Robert, back to tell him he would not be joining him on the outing he had planned for them. He was even a little concerned that he had planned an outing.
Usually, he was never seen with his lovers in public, but he wanted to take Jaimie out – maybe show him his favorite places in the city – which was completely out of character for him. But the omega’s denial to spend time with him hadn’t put him off, that was why he was currently outside a not-so-great building, in an even worse part of town. Nickolas decided that he would be shopping for a new apartment for the omega. No way his omega would live in a place like this. Yet, as quickly as the thought came, he had to remind himself that Jai wasn’thisomega, and why on earth did that thought make him sad.
He made his way up to the apartment he’d been told belonged to Jai and knocked.
When Jai opened the door, Nickolas’ gaze quickly took in the omega’s gorgeous face, the stunning green eyes that looked mad as hell, and those pouty lips, he had missed more than he was willing to admit, opened in surprise. Nickolas took in the smooth perfection of the omega’s alabaster skin and the gorgeous red hair that had become his favorite color in all the world, closely followed by emerald green, for those vivid eyes that were still shooting sparks of anger his way.
Nickolas had to admit that even though he had stayed away, the omega had featured in all his dreams, each one hotter than the last. He was happy to see he had not exaggerated Jaimie’s appeal and the reality was still just as alluring to him.
He took advantage of the omega’s surprise to enter the apartment uninvited, and taking a look around, he knew that he was correct in his determination to move his… the omega out of his current living situation as soon as possible. He was uncomfortable living the way he did with Jai living like this.
Jai seemed to be surprised into silence because he hadn’t said a word and was still standing by the door. The omega looked completely taken aback by his boss’ sudden appearance. But Nickolas did not miss how Jai’s eye traveled down his body appreciatively.
“My driver delivered your message,” Nickolas drawled.
“He must have made a mistake because I am certain I told him I wasn’t available… I didn’t want to see you.” The omega said in a cool tone, and for some reason, the fact that Jaimie hadn’t jumped at his summons, was turning him on. Even the challenging look in the omega’s eyes as he responded, fueled him. No one ever stood up to him or called him on his bad behavior.
“Oh no, I got that part of the message, but I was sure he was mistaken and decided to double-check myself,” Nickolas replied smoothly.
“I was pretty clear,” Jaimie said, “I’m not sure there’s anything to double-check,” he added, his chin set stubbornly.
Nickolas wasn’t sure why, but the more Jaimie challenged him, the more attracted to him he was. There was something refreshing about how forthright Jaimie was about his annoyance towards him.
Nickolas found Jaimie’s behavior supremely attractive, and it only served to make him want the omega in his bed even more. Add that to the desire that had been building while he was away and he felt like he would explode.
“I figured since it took two weeks and I didn’t get a call, it was an indication of your feelings for me,” Jai said, showing that under all the sweet omega temperament, he had a red-headed temper lurking.
“I had some business to take care of,” Nickolas replied calmly. That usually worked.
“And in this place, where you were taking care of business, the phones all died for two weeks? Wow.” Jai said, his voice full of sarcasm.
“Uh… Well.” Nickolas stammered, not sure what to say to that.
Nickolas felt his cheeks heat at being chastised, albeit in a roundabout way, by the omega. But for some reason, he wasn’t upset. If anyone else had spoken to him the same way, he would have put them in their place quickly.
“I did say I was going to be away.” He added defensively.
“And I repeat, were all the phones dead or were you in a magical land where service goes to die?” Jai said, his lips still pulled tight in a mutinous line, and his eyes sparkling with his anger. It was probably clichéd as fuck, but the omega looked magnificent angry, although Nickolas had a feeling telling him that wouldn’t win him any Brownie points.
Nickolas had nothing to say to defend himself, especially because he would have to admit that he purposely stayed away. Instead, he invaded the omega’s space, backing him up until he was trapped between the door and Nickolas’ body.
“Would it make a difference if I apologize?” Nickolas found himself enquiring, and no one was more surprised than him.
Instead of a verbal reply all he got from Jaimie was a subtle nod. That had him smiling. He moved in making sure even a gust of air couldn’t pass between them and put his mouth to the omega’s ear, “I am very sorry for going away and not calling for two weeks. It wasn’t very nice and I promise, hand on heart, it will never happen again.”
Jaimie held his body tightly for a moment, but the moment he accepted Nickolas’ apology, the alpha felt it in the way Jaimie’s body relaxed into his. And he breathed a sigh of relief he hadn’t even been aware he’d been holding. He realized that it had been very important to him that Jai accepted his apology. It also occurred to him that he had meant every word he’s just spoken.
“Apology accepted,” Jaimie breathed as he melted into Nickolas’ body like he had been physically stopping himself from doing so earlier. Nickolas smiled at the thought.
Nickolas took a deep breath, breathing in that honeysuckle and vanilla scent he had missed more than he could put into words. That feeling of home overwhelmed him again as he stood there with the omega in his arms. It wasn’t even sexual, it was just comforting, like the alpha was appreciating having his omega close again. Nickolas paused at calling Jai his omega. He wasn’t his… was he? He had never called Asa his omega as long as they’d known each other.
