Jai
Just being around Nickolas again, had Jai’s heart racing and pounding as if he had run up a hill. One glimpse of that lean, handsome face, Jai wanted to throw himself at him, and pretend everything was okay.
For a split second, a brief moment in time, it didn’t matter what Nickolas had done. Jai just wanted to forgive him, so that he could be with him again. The stirring of his cock, was indication enough that his body was clearly very in favor of that idea.
However, Jai knew the stakes were so much higher now than ever before. He had his sons to think about. He couldn’t just run back to Nickolas’ arms without thinking about the consequences. Nickolas said his engagement was over and Jai believed him, but his heart still couldn’t trust an alpha who had thought it would be alright sleeping with Jai while engaged to someone else.
Jai didn’t miss how gentle Nickolas was being with him. He tucked Jai into a wheelchair with great care, and had a totally goofy smile on his face. At least the answer to the question of how Nickolas felt about Jai’s pregnancy had been answered.
Jai didn’t miss the way the alpha’s chest was puffed out with pride. If he was a peacock, he would be preening, showing off his magnificent feathers.
“I’ll take you home. You can eat and then you will rest,” Nickolas said, as he pushed Jai towards the exit.
“And we’ll talk,” Jai said in a firm tone.
“And we’ll talk,” Nickolas echoed.
* * *
Jai wokeup in a strange bed and bedroom, wondering where he was, before all the events of the last twenty-four hours came back to him, and he deduced where he was.
He also realized that he was wearing his boxers and a too-big-for-him t-shirt, that he knew immediately belonged to Nickolas from the smell. He took a deep breath, taking in the scent that he’d missed and craved the last few weeks, and for the first time since he’d left his apartment with no plan, he felt settled. The edge of panic that was always so close to the surface had evaporated.
Nickolas must have been hovering somewhere close by, waiting for Jai to wake up, or was checking in on him from time to time, because as Jai walked out of the bathroom after voiding his bladder, Nickolas crept quietly into the room, but stopped abruptly when he saw Jai on his feet.
“Hello,” Jai said and bit his lip, his heart flipping inside his chest with just a glimpse of Nickolas’ way too handsome face. The alpha made him ache with emotion and need. Jai knew that when it came to this man, he couldn’t be sensible.
“Hi,” Nickolas replied.
“What time…”
“Are you hun…” They both said at the same time.
They both laughed nervously, before Nickolas answered, “It’s almost one in the morning. You fell asleep on our way back here, and I figured I should let you get some rest. You look much better.”
“Thanks,” Jai replied, self-consciously pulling down the t-shirt he was wearing, even though it was already too long and too big for him.
There was a beat of silence, neither of them speaking.
“So would you like something to eat. You’ve been asleep for almost twelve hours,” Nickolas asked, breaking the silence.
Okay well, if they were doing the polite thing, Jai would play along, but if his alpha thought they wouldn’t talk, then he was sorely mistaken.
As they walked to the kitchen, Nickolas said, “I asked your aunt to have your things ready to be picked up tomorrow. I hope that’s okay?”
Jai stopped walking abruptly, making Nickolas who was behind him stop too, “You want my stuff here? Like, all my stuff?” Jai asked Nickolas.
Nickolas, rubbed the back of his neck, in a nervous gesture that was so unlike his confident alpha, “Well, I want you here.”
“For how long?” Jai asked.
“For as long as you want. I hope that ends up being forever,” Nickolas said looking at Jai, a hopeful, pleading gleam in his eye.
“Is it because of—” Jai pointed at his just showing bump, “—them?”
Nickolas stepped closer to him, and tentatively place his hand on Jai’s cheek, “Baby,” he breathed, “Oh, I hate that you even believe that even for a second. I love those babies, never doubt that. But I had no idea they even existed all the weeks I spent looking for you. You, Jai, I missedyouso much. More than I’ve even missed another human being. It felt like I had lost a part of my soul. And knowing that you were hurting because of me, well, that devastated me. I know I made you feel like you didn’t matter, or you were some sort of distraction. But nothing could be farther from the truth.” Jai looked at Nickolas entranced, taking in every word, the man was saying, “You were my first taste of what happiness should be, and I was too stupid to tell you. You made me realize I didn’t have to settle, baby, and that was what Asa was, me settling. I thought I would never have what my grandparents had, so I figured I could just do what my mother wanted... and marry him.”
