Nickolas
Jai seemed to be over the whole pukey, dizzy stage of his pregnancy. Nickolas thought it was simply him being further into his second trimester and closer to his third, but Jai insisted it was because he was happy, and the twins could tell.
Nickolas had gotten used to coming home to find his omega crying over the smallest thing. He got home from work and found Jai in the room they had picked for the nursery, to find his omega sitting on the floor in tears.
“Baby?” Nickolas asked, as he walked into the room, looking around at what could possibly be the source of the tears, “Sweetheart, what’s the matter? What’s wrong?”
Jai sniffled, and Nickolas’ heart melted at how adorable his omega was. “The color is all wrong,” Jai said, in a voice on the verge of tears.
Nickolas looked at the room and thought the color was lovely, but he knew Jai wanted to get some stenciling done, and a bunch of other stuff that went over his head. “It looks fine to me,” Nickolas said, but apparently that was precisely the wrong thing to say, as Jai burst into tears and somehow started talking about how he was going to be a bad father because he couldn’t even get the color of the room right.
Nickolas sat down next to Jai, then picked up his omega, placing him on his lap, “Baby, I hate to see you all worked up. I know it’s because of the hormones, but it’s killing me seeing you here so miserable,” Nickolas said, rubbing his hand down Jai’s back, and placing a kiss on his omega’s head.
Jai sniffled and burrowed closer to his chest, “I’m sorry. I can’t seem to control it. It just happens.”
“I know love. Come on, let’s get you into bed.” Nickolas said. He helped Jai to his feet and steadied him before leading him to their bedroom.
He tucked Jai into bed, all snug, and took a seat by his side, before asking, “So, how was your day with my brother?”
Jai yawned, before answering him, “Graham is awesome. I can’t wait to get to know him better. And he brought us the cutest booties and onesies for the babies.”
“I’m so glad you get along. He’s kind of like the only family I’ve got.” Nickolas said in a tight voice.
“I know, babe, and I’m sorry your mom doesn’t like me,” Jai said in a wobbly voice, which Nickolas hated hearing from him.
Jai had thought that maybe if Nickolas’ family met him, they would think of him differently, but his mom had declined the invitation to even meet Jai. And Nickolas’ dad simply followed whatever his mom did, never giving an opinion. Nickolas wasn’t sure which one of them was worse.
“It’s their loss,” Nickolas said, placing a kiss on Jai’s lips, “they will never get to know just how amazing you are. And they’ll miss out on our kids.”
Jai sighed and yawned, “But at least they’ll have Betty and Graham… and don’t forget Grayson.”
“And their lives will be amazing because they have you as their papa,” Nickolas said, leaning in to kiss Jai again, even though his omega seemed to be crying once more.
“You’re so sweet to me. I love you, sooooo much.” Jai said in tears, looking at Nickolas like he hung the moon.
“I love you too, baby. Now go to bed. You’re fighting sleep and I think it’s winning.” Nickolas said.
Jai nodded, before turning on his side and was fast asleep in seconds.
Nickolas stared at him as he slept, thanking god for a second chance with his soulmate. And that was what Jai was – the other half of his soul. He sat there watching Jai sleep for a moment, thinking about his family, his parents. The last conversation he’d had with his mother, she had made it clear to him that he was never going to get her support, and apparently, he had disgraced his family and diluted the bloodline with street trash. Nickolas had warned her to stay away from him, Jai and his kids. He wasn’t about to have her around his family, and if he was being honest, he didn’t need her.
As sad as he was that his kids wouldn’t have a grandmother, they had Jai’s Aunt Betty, who was an amazing person, and who finally, had accepted him into her little family, with the warning that if he ever hurt Jai, no one would find his body. He wasn’t worried. He had no intention of ever hurting his precious omega.
