Page 87 of Chasing Savannah
Clearly she was more respected than she thought. Hot damn, he loved the women in this prowl. Yasim tensed, his rep stood and whispered in his ear. Yasim’s eyes glanced over the rest of the room before he sat.
“Now,” Brianne shuffled some pages. “I’ll go over the minutes from our last meeting.”
“What happened to your grandfather?” The panther at the head of the table spoke.
“He’s enjoying retirement with his mates.” She answered serenely. If not for his connection with the woman, he’d not know how irritated she was.
“You’re allowing a woman to continue to represent your prowl?” Another alpha growled.
Instead of answering, Carlos looked to Brianne. “Is that all you needed from me?”
“It is Alpha, I’ll keep you advised if anything else needs your attention.” Surprise and pleasure bloomed in Brianne’s eyes as he stood.
He inclined his head and cleared the room of everyone except his reps. There was stunned silence, as they walked out. The room exploded with noise when the door closed. He growled and started to go back in.
Derrick stopped him. “She will handle it. You’ll undermine her if you go back in.”
“What do you think of Yasim?” He asked his Beta as they waited on the elevator.
“I think he’s poison. He looked genuinely surprised to see you, though.”
His jaw worked while he fought to calm himself. Derrick was right, his father looked as shocked as the rest of the alphas at the table.
“Perhaps it means he’s not the one.” Simon said softly as they loaded into the elevator.
“We’ll talk in the car.” He growled.
They were silent all the way down. When the elevator doors opened, the humans who worked for the shifters looked up, gaping as they moved through the lobby. Their power moved everyone in their path. Once outside, Carlos whistled and put his finger up, winding it in a circle to gather the guards he’d left surrounding the building. They gathered at the SUVs they drove to the meeting.
Brielle smiled at him once they got to the car. “That was badass.”
He looked back to the building. “I know you said the smaller prowls wouldn’t try us, but put feelers out. I didn’t see anything in there that led me to believe any of those prowls would touch us.”
“I’m inclined to agree,” Joelle said quietly.
Brielle nodded. “No problem, Felix.”
They all loaded in their cars to leave. Carlos gave one last lingering look to the building. He’d felt nothing in the face of Yasim. He made a mental note to call his mother and reassure her.
“Did you feel anything, Joelle?” He asked as he started the car.
She leaned forward in her seat. “Honestly, Yasim was very shocked, their prowl link is…not exactly healthy, so it’s hard to get a good read.”
“Anything from the others?”
She sighed. “Ambition. A lot of it. Pride, greed, machinations that were spinning a hundred miles an hour, but nothing exactly targeting us.”
Derrick hummed next to him. “But, as you said, the smaller prowls are not a part of the council. Someone searching for a spot there could want to go through us to do it.”
He nodded. That was true enough. “Let’s get with Brianne and set up meetings with the smaller prowls. We can get to know them, feel them out.”
“That’s a great idea.” Derrick pulled out his phone and was typing away.
He pulled out from the parking lot. Not bad for his first prowl meeting, but he was no closer to finding out who was attacking their women.
Chapter 28
Savannah growled and slapped her hand against the steering wheel as she hit another red light. She was late. She hated being late. She sighed and looked down at the sensible slacks and button down shirt she was wearing. There was nothing sexy about what she wore, it certainly wasn’t date clothes. But, her client run-through had taken longer than it was supposed to.
