Page 61 of Chasing Savannah
She snorted. “Let’s go.”
“Who was that?” He asked, glancing back towards the woman as she got into her car.
“My cousin Lydia. Your kiss didn’t go over well.” She blew out an exasperated breath and shook her head.
“I didn’t mean to cause you any trouble.” Not that he cared what anyone thought of him kissing his mate.
“Don’t worry about it,” She said over her shoulder as she walked away to catch up with the other moms.
He let her walk in front of him, just so he could watch her ass in those jeans. The view had such a payoff. He turned his head and whistled. The two enforcers he had watching her house sidled from around the corner, following behind at a discreet distance. He wanted the time with his mate, but was ever aware of the danger still hovering over the prowl.
There hadn’t been any other attacks in the past two days, but until he knew for sure who was behind them, he wasn’t taking any chances. He caught up to Savannah, reaching down to grab her hand. They walked that way in silence a little while, watching the kids go from house to house. His sisters and her cousins were chatting a few feet in front of them. He pulled on her hand to slow her down so they could have a little privacy.
He broke the silence. “Did you sleep well, last night?”
She rolled her eyes and blew out a breath. “You and Derrick are certainly not helping my sleep pattern.”
He laughed and lifted her hand, laying a kiss on her knuckles.
“You’re especially cruel for the stunt you pulled the other night.”
“Who me?” He put a hand to his chest. “I did what you asked and left you alone to sleep.”
“You made sure to rile me up first.” She accused.
“You had only to take what you wanted.” He reminded her.
“First of all, who in the world falls asleep that fast.”
He smiled at her disgruntled tone. “You could’ve left the bed and slept on the sofa.”
“Umm, your arm had been tight around me and you complained every time I tried to move.”
He grabbed her around the waist and walked behind her, “what’s the matter, sleeping next to my hot body too much for you?”
She laughed, and he loved the sound. “You’re ridiculous.”
He grabbed her hand again and walked next to her. “I’m sticking to my promise.”
“Hmph,” she said.
“I liked waking up next to you.”
She smiled shyly and changed the subject. “Have you had any other attacks? No one was really talking about it at the house.”
He sighed. “It’s been quiet the past two days, which makes me wary. Derrick and I have started patrolling the territory along with the enforcers. It’s good, because I’m getting more familiar with the area. The sooner we catch them the better. The pairs order is already starting to chaff some people.”
“Yeah, Charlotte said you tried to limit it to the women at first.” She gave him a sideways glance.
He grimaced. “Yes, your cousins can be quite explicit when saying no.”
Even after Brielle had asked for clarification, her cousins had cornered him after the prowl meeting and let him know in no uncertain terms what they thought about the order.
She laughed outright. “Let that be a lesson to you, Felix.”
“Trust me, I’ve learned my lesson on that.”
“How are you finding the prowl otherwise?”
