Chapter 37

Savannah checked her watch for the third time and sighed. She was on edge, her power flaring out of her control. It had been that way all day. She looked around her old house and sighed. She and Jamie had made some good memories in the house. Perhaps nostalgia had her on edge and apprehensive.

She was supposed to be meeting her ex-husband here, but he was late, as usual. She’d tried to combine all her chores into one today, so she’d asked Greg to meet her at her house while she prepped it for the open house happening tomorrow. She would miss the place, but she loved their penthouse. She was still working on it, indecisive about some of the wall colors and furniture. She smiled wistfully. Her mates were probably sick and tired of her decorating, but she wanted it just right. They’d been in the penthouse for weeks and she was finally finished with the living room.

She sighed when the doorbell rang. Savi opened the door and Greg came in, kissing her on the cheek in greeting. Fastidious, his suit was custom made, and fit to his trim body, not a wrinkle to be found.

“Sorry, I’m late. I had some work.”

“You always have work,” she said, walking into the kitchen.

She handed him a mug of coffee.

He sipped quietly a moment before raising an eyebrow. “So, two mates.”

Getting right to it then. “Yes, I’m in a Tribond.”

“Like your grandparents?”

She nodded.

He hummed.

“What?”

“Nothing, maybe that’s why we didn’t work.”

She snorted. “You cheated, that’s why we didn’t work.”

He tilted his head and smiled sheepishly. “How will having two mates work?”

She raised an eyebrow. “In what way?”

“Well, does jealousy not play a part in a relationship like that?”

“Now you’re in my business,” she pointed her pen at him and ignored his question.

He shrugged, not at all embarrassed. “Explain to me the extra security. Jamie’s explanation was vague at best.” He put his mug down and clasped his hands together on the table.

She sighed and leaned back against the sink. “My mate is the new Felix, so our son will have security when he’s out from under the prowl. There’s also the matter of people being attacked in our prowl.”

“How are you, speaking of that?”

She waved away his concern. “I’m fine.”

He watched her quietly. “You’re certainly different.”

“What does that mean?”

His gaze seemed to catalogue her appearance. She fought the need to adjust the oversize sweater dress she wore under his scrutiny.

“I don’t know. You’re glowing and you seem…settled maybe, certainly more intimidating than you used to be.”

“I’ve never been meek.”

He snorted. “I definitely would never call you that, Vanna. But now you exude confidence, it’s sexy.”

“Right,” She rolled her eyes and changed the subject. “So, I’ll need all the details for when you travel.”
